To Inspect or Not to Inspect?Follow

#1 Feb 23 2004 at 8:45 AM Rating: Decent
I am an inspector and i am not ashamed to admit it. For some reason on Everquest there are people who get offended when you inspect them without asking or when asked tell you no. I find that funny, I myself get inspected every once in a while and have no problem with it. Others on the other hand , start typing as soon as you right click on them , and say how rude you are. For those ppl i say "DEAL WITH IT", it's a game and all some body did was right click upon a toon in front of them.
If a person wants there equipment to be made secret , I say talk to Sony and get them to change that part of the game. Maybe a toggle button that would allow you to have control over what is seen. Thats my idea. What do you ladies and gentlemen think about it?

P.S. Whats the deal with ANNON, why ppl got to be so individualistic.

People who get offended by being inspected should turn the "You are being expected" message off. Voila, problem solved.

People are anon to avoid getting begged for buffs and avoid 755823523905 question by people. I think.

Personally iam not anon whit any of my chars.
I just tell people no . or ask another.
Except when guild tell me to do so on a raid to avoid having other guild come rush target if whipe.

YaY we've done this one a million times lets do it again :)

Inspect until your hearts content, if they don't like it they will either turn off the message so they don't have to read it, or they will throw a big dramatic hissy fit.

Let's be realistic here, as we have gone over in past threads this game is all some people have. The tiniest nuances that would normally seem insignificant to most sane sensible adults can topple their entire world, it's as if you've gone up to them in the mall pantsed them and then punched them in the groin. If these are the kind of people you want to play with then you should probably respect their wishes. If not kindly tell them STFU and explain how to disable the inspect message.

As far as ANON the main reasons people go anon is if they are buffing classes, rezzing classes, or if they are doing something they aren't very proud of like taking an entire a zone to PL their alt or farming Noob zones.

/edit I forgot people that want to avoid being asked to group by people that for whatever reason are not checking for lfg tags

I don't care if people inspect me; usually I'll offer to link any items they're curious about. If they inspect, then beg, that's a different issue.

As to people going /anon or /role, that's really their business. Why would anyone care if anyone else is /anon?

I have the "You are being inspected" message turned off and it helps avoid spam. Some people would spam inspect just to be annoying, seeing how far they can push you to snapping. With it turned off I just see some person standing there looking at my character. Another little treat is to have funny messages for them to look at, usually jokes.

Some that run /anon or /role have good reasons for it. I know a few that get stalked, many are harrassed for buffs and rezzes, others just want to tradeskill in peace so they put up the /afk flag too.

i prefer playing /role because it stil.l shwos what guild i am in and nothing else, i dont like people seeing what level i am because then they all send li,e 10 messages "want to go group???!!1?!1" "can you give me sow" (10 different people at once hah) "can yuou give me good buffs??!" and this is with my beastlord.... beastlords dont have very good buffs lol . even if i just start i do /role. if someone wants my level they can ask. as for tyhe inspection thing,,, all they have to do ids run so indpection breaks then take off all the equip real fast sp when they chase you for inspection u have nothign they can see. or you can deal with it. if they go crazy over it and say dont do it again... do it again and make them mad its fun .

This topic has served to drive off KarisStarfire and Crystalwolf whoever-whoever. That should say something about it, but I'm not sure what. Probably that overly sensitive females shouldn't get worked up about inspecting.

I've noticed 99.65% of "inspecting" complaints are really complaints about begging or griefing. "He inspected me and then asked for my sword!" -- so what upset you, the inspect or the part where he asked for the sword? "He spam inspected me until I LD'd!" -- So it's okay for him to spam you with a TStaff, just not inspects? In other words, the issue most people seem to REALLY have is with beggers and idiots and griefers, not inspects per se. If inspecting really had anything to do with it, I wouldn't be in an Everfrost LDoN getting tells from lvl 4 bards in GFay asking if I have any old equipment.

Inspect me all you want but don't barrage me with questions about where X item drops and 'Can you link your <insert item here'

I also don't get people who get mad at people who inspect since how many times have we tried to buy of a merch and ended up with a char screen coming up? That said if i am interested in what an item does i ask them to link it politely and then leave them alone.

You may all be right, on your servers, but come to Rallos Zek and there are some people who will kill you (in game of course :))
I for one go /roleplay most of the time for two main reasons:
One, my guild is at war with at least four other guilds and its just plain smart to keep your whereabouts to yourself.
Two, I am a level 65 druid. no need to say more on that!
I get inspected all the time in PoK, I don't care much. But then again, sometime i get inspected in a pvp zone, by a white-con, un-guilded toon (in otherwords, most likely a pk) so I attack and either drive them off, kill them or flee myself.
I do have a message in my inspect window though...its polite and to the point. "Vancouver B.C. ...and you?"

I'm one of the people who get pissed off when i'm inspected, without first being asked.
Why does it **** me off so much? Well it's not so much you inspecting me, it's what happens straight after:
"Dude how much is <item>?"
"Dude do you want to sell it?"
"Dude can you give me that <item>?"
yada... yada... yada... Most people who play, don't run around inspecting anyway.

I'm more happier now. I have /inspect turned off, I never see the message any more and I just don't answer people who ask me if I want to sell stuff.

I have a message in my character bio box along the lines of:

"Thanks for inspecting. No i don't know how much my gear cost, or where half of it drops from. Go look in the Bazaar. No I won't sell anything to you or give you anything. Goodbye."

I'll just cut and paste my last response to this dead horse.
Quote:
The second they hit the right click button they cross over from admiring your nice clothes to grabbing the back of your collar to see whose name is on the label.

Yes, it's only a game. Yes, these are only imaginary items. However, we're real people behind the keyboards and we all have different boudaries. It's only polite to ask first. There's just no excuse not to.

The inspect followed by begging is worse than the simple unannounced inspect. When people beg from me I respond with "how odd, I was just going to ask you for the same thing!" That usually finishes the conversation.

On the other hand, I have never said "no" to anyone who asked to inspect me, and I'll link whatever they want to see. Then I thank them for having asked first.

As far as inspecting without asking...I'm OK with it. It happens by accident, it happens because people are curious, and yes, it happens from people that are trying to beg or scam stuff from me. Inspecting doesn't bother me. Questions about where my gear came from don't bother me (as long as I'm not busy). Beggars and scammers I can deal with. It's just a game...it's just someone looking at your stuff, it's not a big deal. ( I don't play on a PvP server, I guess it could be a big deal there).

As far as going anon in game....well aside from the reasons already mentioned, some guilds only allow players of X level or higher to join...but will tag lowbie alts so members can be in contact via guild chat if a target for a raid spawns. Said guilds wouldn't want lowbie members displaying tags and making people think that they take characters that low, so they may ask low-level alts to go anon.

Even the dumbest person can do a social macro like this:

/hail %T
Your equipment looks interesting - may I have a closer look?
/pause 50
thank you
/bow

and a VERY curious person can even make a hotbutton for this.

Inspecting without even hailing someone is pure lazyness at best and rudeness at worst. If somone hasn't got the time for a f*cking hail in EQ he probably also is short on time for "please" and "thanks" in RL
