Hi All,

I've not started yet but am due v soon.

I'm planning to start a Barbarian Beastlord, but a lot of comments I've read rate Iksar BL as better.

Can anyone compare the two? I'll probably stick with the Barb as it matches what I like better, but I'd be interested to hear any comments on the pros and cons of each.

Many thanks,

Lance.

strictly speaking form a pure stat point of view Ikky's are better <mainly due to the high inate AC & Regen> however they come with a monster 25% xp penalty so i would stick to Barb if i where you

Good choise for newbie character Lance, have you decided on a server yet?.

Barbarians also have nice melee stats, but of course those stats are easily capped anyway with our buffs. Iksar have regen, extra ac, look cool, and have forage. BUT, Barbarians have Slam, which is extremely useful when fighting casters. As said above, Iksar have a huge xp penalty which really shows up in the higher levels, very nasty. Go with what you want and not with what you honestly do not want to play. You'll be happier and enjoy your character more if you do so.

Iksar BL pros:
Looks great in leather (and since beasties are a leather wearing class this is convenient)
Pet is a stegasaurus (ok, scaled wolf, but basically looks like a mini-dino)
Innate regen
AC bonus (carried over from when iksar couldn't wear plate so SK's and warriors needed a boost to compensate)
Forage
Infravision

Iksar BL cons:
Experience penalty
KoS to all other races but vah shir (cats)

Barbarian BL pros:
No faction issues except with evils
Newbie zone is mostly busy so grouping will be easy

Barbarian BL cons:
Blind at night

Well Trolls and ogres can also be beasties as well

the both have exp penalties

gator pet doesnt look huge at higher lvls like the other pets do

Wished that his beastie troll had his gator was big as the walking suitcase in Oasis(lockjaw)

Ogres get a walking carpet(bear)

as far as the coolest looking warder would be the ikky

the worst one be the barby( the white dog) i figured they could have given them something differant ( they should have gotten the bear like iceberg and tundra jack)

The ogres should have gotten a spider inmo( cause that zone has more spiders then bears)

The only beastie class that makes since as far as warders are the ikky kitty and trolls

as far as values go
Kitty- neutral
Barby- goody too shoe
Troll- evil but faction easy fix
Ogre- Evil but faction can easliy be fixed
Ikky- Pure evil faction hard to fix(takes to long sometimes) but doable

Thanks for all your comments, I think you've convinced me of two things.

1. Iksars are more powerful / better / more abilities

2. Barbarian is still the one for me

It's just a preference thing. Like I say thanks for your comments so far particulary to Tindarl, good info, and hello again to tarv. (tarv - I've not decided yet on a server, but will probably be a UK one. Suggestions welcome.)

Druzzil Ro has a pretty big UK population and some GMT based guilds at various levels.

Final Heaven:- Newbie - family non raid upto 45+ guild good base information ect and besides i am an officer so easy invites Smiley: lol

Semper Eadem:- 45+ low level raid Family Guild usually GMT since most of the officers are GMT. are very friendly and have people who are more than capable of being in 'Uber' guilds but choose to stay in SE which says something.

Europa:- Super 'Uber' you can't bend it Time enabled GMT guild. but almost impossible to get into

Shards of Chaos:- Europa Alts and entry level guild for back flags and general play.

I did try Venril Sithar the UK server but found it really hard to get groups, but you could try a charcter there and if you don't like it move to a US based server.

I am in Pactus Aquilis on Dro because they are a great bunch of people, they raid EST which is very inconvenient but i love them to bits and won't leave them unless it's for a GMT raiding guild.

Thanks tarv, very good info. I'd rate your posts but I'm thinking you have to be a premium member to do that as I can't.

:)

but cheers anyway.

Perhaps I'll start on Final Heaven (If I do I'll look out for you.) Is it GMT? (and are you? Guess so if you're around now.)

Can I swap between servers once I've started, say between Final Heaven and Druzzil Ro?

yes Final Heaven is GMT, the Guild leader is from Milton keynens and generally since he and i are the only recruiters we tend to grab people in our time zone.

You can switch servers at a price but not to Venril for reasons unknown <something to do with the UK licence>

oh and Final heaven is a guild not a server if that wasn't a typo.

There are no problems switching to VS - SoE provide this move in the same was as other server transfers , however in doing so you become a UBIsoft customer. Once on VS you CANNOT move back to a non-UBI server.

UBI customers have been having trouble obtaining the latest expansions as they had not been available as digital downloads.

(However we get pretty good customer service compared to SoE servers - I had a petition about a quest answered within 5 mins last night)

Ahh apologies tarv, now I understand.

Final Heaven is a guild on the Druzzil Ro server. Yes?

Bit tick me.

(Not planning on swapping servers if I can choose wisely the first time I'll stick it out, but thanks anyway Corwin.)

It sounds like you figured out pretty quickly that it all comes down to personal preference.

A level 16 magician can summon a heatstone (infravision) to help with your nightblindness. At level 29 they can summon a coldstone (ultravision.) They can be equipped in the ammo or neck slots. I'm suprised more people don't ask for them. Cranking up the gamma correction works, but I swear it makes the graphics look harsh.

About the night vision problem, we Beastlords get Spell: Serpent Sight at level 19, a spell that will grant temporary Infravision to you. Later at level 51, although it is really kind of pointless then, we gain Spell: Ultravision.

I played a human monk for quite a few levels until he was retired. Until I got a light emitting piece of equipment that I could wear, I always carried a Globe of the Everburning Flame (same light radius and brightness as a Greater Lightstone) in a primary inventory slot. You could do that for a while if the darkness bothers you.
