Guard Faction-Fungus GroveFollow

I've searched the Faction, Quest, Beastary Boards and can't find any info on what the Faction of the Guards in Fungus Grove, are on.
I am apprehensive to them and was killing a Beattle in the tunnel close to town. Guard killed me. First time I've died and been just apprehensive to a NPC. Usually takes Dubius and me sitting down in front of the, or teh KOS bit.
Any help you can give me as to what faction these guards are on will be appreciated
