Fishing . . .Follow

#1 Feb 18 2004 at 8:22 PM Rating: Excellent
Servers down again great - got me wondering

I have tried fishing at freeport and in Ak'Anon and so far have caught the following :-

Fresh Fish
Fish Scales
Rusty dagger
manky shoes and
Clockwork Koi

I am level 43. Will I ever catch anythingmore exciting than a fresh fish when I get higher level?

Also someone mentioned they got 200 plat in an hour fishing - just by catching these?

Different zones have different types of fish in them, and the higher your skill at fishing, the greater your chances of getting more interesting fish.

As far as making money by fishing...well, most places the prospect does seem pretty dismal. Fresh fish only seem to sell to NPCs for about 1 silver, so you're not going to get rich that way. Fishing in Natimbi, however, could be a different story...I've seen some of the bigger catches there sell for 3-4 plat, and the good catches seem to be more common there than in other zones.

As far as I know, the 180pp/hr deals are coming from Gates zones where people are catching fish worth 3-5pp each.

Other ways to make money fishing largely involve catching rare fish or fish from difficult zones which are then used in quests, tradeskills, etc. From what I understand (I'm not much of an angler) you can make decent money off the cod you catch in Cobolt Scar, for example. Finally, you can always use your high fishing skill to make the fishing pole used in the Earring of the Solstice quest, granted you can get the components.

180/hour, Jophiel? Check out Abysmal fishing. This guy is exaggerating a bit though, maybe 800-900/hr, but in my humble opinion, one of the only two redeeming features of GoD for me, as I am 56, beastlord, poor as spit, and still farming HG's for my pay; mass tradeskill location being the other feature I like.

Eh, again I'm not an angler. I can easily make over 1k an hour soloing plus make decent XP/AA at the same time, so I haven't looked into it. Around 200pp/hr was what I heard earlier Smiley: smile

Thanks for all the replies hehe

I think I will try getting my fishing up to that high - gnomes seem to level it very quickly.

Fishing is a tad dull but if you are waiting around for your friends who haven't got planes of knowledge to get to you it can pass 20 minutes.

Cheers

How the hell do I get to the Abysmal sea?

I portaled into Toxx forest - had to swim over to Kerra island - walked all around the island to get inside but can't find a way of getting to the abysmal sea - unless you mean fish fromkerra isle towards the abysmal sea.

I have swum to a boat where there is a mission to cath a razortooth fish which is where I am currently logged off.

Is there a way to get to any islands on the abysmal sea (like the ocean of tears

level 55 fishing now too - is that cap at level 10?

cheers

Abysmal Sea can only be reached via Nedaria's Landing (which is on Antonica, zone next to JaggedPine Forest). An easy and fast way to get to Nedaria is to use the Magus' service if you have LDoN. I don't know if all Magi port to Nedaria, but at least the one in the East Commonlands tunnel does. (Found Everfrost not having Nedaria memmed a couple of weeks back when I wanted to go there).

Alternative is coming from Black Burrow or Surefall Glades and walking through Jaggedpine. The zoneline is near where the waterfall is/was in the Brell Gnolls cave.

Once in Nedaria's Landing you go stand at the end of the left pier and wait for the shuttle, it will take you to the Ship City in Abysmal Sea. Gates of Discord expansion required.

(edit: corrected some typos)

Aah cool thanks. I searched all over Erudin for a long time but no luck.

I am looking at a map of Antonica now and I can see the jagged pine forest - which direction do I zone to find her - save me risking my level 10 toon's life aimlessly searching

Thanks again for the info

Also am I likely to die at the Abysmall Sea?

If you have good faction in cobalt scar and can go there safely, cobalt cod sell in the bazaar on Bertoxx for about 20 to 40pp each depending on demand. Check to see which fish are used in other tradeskills such as cod oil which is used for tailoring and you will find others willing to pay for what they cannot get by themselves. I make sure to protect my CS faction as that's my biggest fishing moneymaker.

Fishing for plat is also doable in the Gulf of Gunthak zone if you have LoY. The stuff caught in there also sells good to the vendors (except of course, fresh fish, fish scales, rusty dagger, etc.)

Just a note : I believe fishing is still a capped skill at 5*level + 5.

Also, different sorts of bait modify your fishing skill - expensive flies up your score fairly signigificantly, and also increase the odds of getting a "special" (i.e. not fish, scales, dagger or sandal).

Bah. And the specials in question depend on the zone, and it's those things you can go to Abysmal and fish for.

There's a list somewhere around of what the thingys in each zone are.

ah cool

5*level +5 would put me at level 55 and I havent advanced in a while. Need to level my wizard then.

Thanks again for all the cool info
