help for overthere quest (gate procing weapon)Follow

#1 Feb 16 2004 at 2:27 PM Rating: Decent
I am a vah shir beastlord and am trying to raise my faction for the weapon quest (that procs gate).

At the moment i am kos, and am raising my faction by collecting braids and handing them to the captain.

I tried using an erudite potion and this made my faction threateningly, i then used sneak, but he still gave me a whack.

How can i please get my faction above threaten so i can start handing in these braids?

are there oany ogre/troll potions pls? (proper names of them)

any help will be appreciated

Essence of Ogre and Essence of Troll are the names of the troll/ogre potions. Essence of dark elf or human should also work, provided you haven't blown your Venril Sathir faction previously by hunting in Kaesora, Karnor's or some other location which lowers VS faction.

Be prepared for a long hard slog to get your faction up high enough to get the hammer. My erudite SK didn't start off KoS and handed in about 50 braids over 8 levels of hunting in OT.

If you just want a Gate item, look into the Thurg gate potions, could be easier Smiley: smile

I'm pretty sure there's a bank in the Outpost. To be honest, I've never had an evil character use the place since my only high level evil is an Iksar. But anyway, it should only take you the one potion to hand in all eighty and get a bearing on your faction after that. You only need to go up to Kindly.

On Saryrn, illusion potions are 200-300pp each depending on the race.

Amiable is all you need to get the hammer while you've got an illusion on. However, you may want to continue to hand in braids to get non-KoS without an illusion, could save you problems later on when you show up.

My mistake then. I used charm which brings you to Kindly and for some reason I thought that was what you needed. Oops.

Dark Elf illusion would be most likely to get you the best faction at the outpost. They hate Iksar, and I'm not sure on Troll/Ogres, but iirc, Dark Elves have the highest base faction with Venril Sathir. (Odd, since VS is an Iksar, that they'd be KoS, but hey...)

In any case, I'd highly suggest farming the ******** out of the snark braids before you do any potion/charm/alliance/etc stuff. Get a whole load of the braids, slap on the illusion, and turn them in 4 at a time to Captain Rottgrime for a faction boost. It takes a lot to do. My main was a dark elf, and he started apprehensive or dubi to the outpost. I spent my entire span from 26-43 or so in the Overthere. Granted, I had to share braids with people once in a while, but for the most part I got them. And at the end of it all, I still ended up only Dubious. And now, after working on my epic, concussion quest, Veeshan's Peak key, etc, I'm down to apprehensive again. Believe me, the faction falls about 100x faster than it rises.

Chances are, if you're KoS to OT already, your only hope in hell will be to get a half-decent puller and charmer. Pull Rottgrime out of the outpost, add-free if possible, then charm and hand in a buncha braids.

Not sure if you can get someone to charm the undead foreman for the hammer turnin or not, since I think he'd only be indifferent to you. I don't know much about charm.

The foreman is Amiable to the person who charms him, but indifferent to everyone else then. Which is not enough (as I noticed when I was trying to do the hammer quest for alts).

Once you have the hammer, outpost faction isn't all that important anymore, at least, when your level is appropriate. The only thing you have to deal with after having procced 'Overthere' is deal with a lvl 27 skellie that aggroes at the port in point.

You can exit the ship where you pop by going south and there's enough room to fight him if you can't FD.

On my bard I usually hit Mez when he aggroes, then I leave the ship and he never follows me after that.

Also the Ornate Velium Amulet has charges of Alliance - a faction modifying spell. It won't be enough by itself but might just tip the balance if you are close.
