Its basically the aggression of mobs(npc creatures/monsters) against characters.

"aggro range" defines how close you have to get to the mob (or the other way round) to have him attack you.
"getting aggro" means the mob wants to kill preferebly YOU.
"holding aggro" means that while you fight a mob he keeps hating you more than any other character and keeps beating you up although he's getting nuked by spells, rooted or backstabbed from others

now the specialists please take over.....

the "taunt" button is what warriors use to get and hold agro as well as some of those new disciplines.

What with the "plat buying" thread and this one I wonder if our warrior here has not run into the brick wall of Warriors not being preferred tanks for exp groups.

In which case you will be looking for "aggro" weapons. These are things with procs (random combat effects) which either directly or indirectly cause the wielder to gain aggro. They can easily be seen as crucial to warriors in the mid-game because that is when the mobs start hitting hard enough not to want aggro wandering round the group.

Some procs are "Anger" directly. Others like stuns cause massive aggro apart from their primary effect. They offer massive assistance to warriors in maintaining themselves at the top of the Hate List.

It could I guess look like you have to have that 10k weapon or you'll never get another group.

If my main was still a warrior and I hit this I guess plat-buying would be tempting. My way round would be to start another character that has some hope of earning money and use it to subsidise the warrior.

In truth though these weapons are a great help but you can work without them until you can earn enough the normal way to fund the purchase. Make a rep for being competent and learn to use all your skills properly and you can hold aggro ok for a few levels yet.

Sticking 200k of gear on your back will not teach you to control aggro nor will it make you a better player. It will remove almost all point from the game and open that door to just paying out RL cash whenever you want anything.
