Gates of Discord backwards compatible?Follow

I am going to buy the Gates of Discord and was wondering if you get to use your same account if you want to play the original Everquest or Ruins of Kunark too. I bought the two older games a while back, but I am just curious if you need to buy 2 accounts in order to play different versions of Everquest.

Thanks...

As long as you have the original EQ you can play any combination of expansions.

Thanks... maybe I don't need to buy the box version, I just need to install Everquest and there will be an option to upgrade to Gates of Discord? Hummmm.... It might save me some money... sounds good to me...

In the server select screen there should be an "update owned expansions" option. Select this, enter your key, and you're in there.

Edit: Though it can be done this way, I strongly recomend buying the Evolutions box set. It's not terribly expensive and there are many good zones for XP in the other expansions, particularly in the Luclin expansion.

basically each expansion you get adds new zone and new features, if you dont buy the expasnion you dont get the new zones or features, but you do get the zones and features from the expansions you have already. i find its best just to get every expansion that comes out so you have access to everything.

I am looking at the installation that I am now updating from the Ruins of Kunark and it looks like it is updating my files. If I go buy the expansion of the "Gates of Discord" will there be an advantage in doing so? Or should I just hit the button to connect to other expansions.

Thanks,

I think you have the concept of expansions wrong.

The different expansions do not require one another. The original Everquest, Ruins of Kunark, Scars of Velious, Shadows of Luclin, Legacy of Ykesha, Planes of Power, Lost Dungeons of Norrath, Gates of Discord expansions are all independant of one another, and none of them include the previous ones.

Meaning, if you purchase GoD, you will still lack Velious, Luclin, Ykesha, PoP and LDoN. Do what someone else suggested if you want the full experience, and buy the bundled pack that includes all the prior expansions. It's dirt cheap, and even though it includes the original EQ and Kunark, you can just integrate it to your current account. You'll keep all your characters, have the same login, but will add on any of the accounts in the bundle that you lacked previously.

Adding an expansion to your account only enables certain zones and features of the expansion, it's not a unique game. Buying Planes of Power will bump the maximum level to 65, add some new AA abilities you can get, and of course, the new zones. Same account, same characters, just more to do.

As far as GoD goes, it doesn't matter a ton whether you buy it in-store, or order it online. The in-store version comes with a little ornamental staff, as well as giving you one in-game. Same thing with LDoN, except it was a keychain, and an in-game weight-reduction bag.
