We're often lamenting the lack of an available tank in our groups...so I started a Barbie Warrior.

I want to level him as fast as possible on his own so skills don't suffer on the way up. I have some plat from my main to equip him, so I'm wondering about armor and weapons. Is Acrylia plate a good choice? I would like to get items that he can keep for as long as possible. Any suggestions on armor, weapons, and haste items that won't break me (and are useable by a low lvl toon) are greatly appreciated. I would like to train him on 1HS, 2HS and 1HB at a minimum. Also, if anyone knows when dual weild, kick, bask, taunt, etc., are available, please let me know. I want to hot key and/or macro them ASAP.

Thank you for your wisdom on this.

For a Barbarian Warrior, I would suggest that you find your self some gothic plate. It has decent armor rating and its bonus stats are strength and stamina. For the money it is prolly one of the best armors you can start out with.

As far as hate items go, both the flowing black silk sash and silver chittin hand raps are good choices. I would shop the bazaar for a while and get the best price before purchasing the item. Basically you dont benefit from the haste effect until you hit in your 20's. Check tAllakhzam's for the exact level.

Besides for that I would get myself a good weapon that has a low delay, like the centi short sword, lamenation, or whatever else fits into your budget.

Thanks for the reply. Its tough changing gears from a caster to a tank, so any help is most appreciated. Also, is there a "right" way to PL? I was planning on progressing on my own until 20, and maybe then asking one of my friends or guildies to help out. But never having PLed a toon, I want to make sure I don't do anything that will cut his skills short or ***** him up in any way. I want him to be an effective tank in terms of dps, aggro holding and ability to take damage. If any aspect(s) of PL will compromise this, please let me know.

Well, In there early levels up to lets say 20, you can level so fast that it is going to be hard for your skills to keep up with your leveling. So Dex buffs would be helpful in increasing the rate of skill ups. The other thing that you are going to have to watch out for is that in order for your defensive skill to increase you have to be the one taking the damage. So depending on how you powerlevel, your defensive skills could be severely lacking.

Personally I would suggest that you level on your own, with the help of some good buffs. That should have you leveling at an acceptable rate. After that go to paladul caverns and find a group. Again you should be ok with the rate of leveling. After your 20's then things will start to slow down and if you are looking to level fast, have at it.

Haveing done this with multiple warriors now the main skills to worry about are your main one's of slam (forget kick as a large race) dual wield weapon skills and your 2H's I normally switched weapons every couple levels so they kept up. Get some decent armor then you can solo to 20 easily. Usually do Qeynos or Halas area till 5 then do Field of bone till round 10 or so. Move into Kurns till that runs dry. Then head to Marus Seru or PC. Then once MS runs out if not doing LDON by then you can hit Dawnshroud. Then it get's rough soloing from there. But you can keep your skills up fairly good with that method AND level quickly to 40's then it's matter of grouping and leveling normal from then.

As a Barbarian Warrior that I brought up to level 65 without any power leveling, I can say that your task is difficult. I play 4 hours a day every day and it took me a long time to get to 65. Granted this is my main and I had never played EQ, so early levels were slow to say the least. The stats that a War needs is Strength and Stamina at low level. Then above 50 worry about Dex for proc's, crits, etc. I personally wore Crusty armor till 40 or so and did pretty well, although it sucks to have to remove it all to sell since every piece has -5 cha min on it Smiley: frown But you get used to it.
I would focus on slashing weapon skills only at first then move to blunt and piercing. I started 2h blunt when a friend gave me a Greatstaff of Thunder at 50 I had maxed the skill by 56 starting from 1. I also trained piercing recently and maxed in about 2 weeks at 65 in LDON. Just get really fast Delay weapons for training and a dex buff as suggested in an earlier post. Good Luck and most all Have fun!!!!

If you can afford the acrylia it is good armor, especially since you took barb as your race. Now dwarven or gnome warriors should look for the different dwarven armor as IMHO its better.
A mix of the large Gothic Steel and other armor from LDON will take you well into the 30's.
For skills you wont be able to keep them maintained until you hit 20 to begin with. For skill training look for fast weapons with a dex buff.

For powerleveling use hp buffs and a healer who can stay around, or druid casting a good ds.

When does dual wield kick in?

I played a magician when EQ first came out, leveled to around 40th or so by Kunark, then quit playing. I recently started again and created a Barb Warrior. I had about 60k to equip him with (thanks to a lot of old friends still playing EQ).

As mentioned, gothic plate is nice and very cheap. I have started replacing a few items with Helanic Tundra (I chose to worship The Tribunal instead of being agnostic). Price is high, but AC, HP, and stats are wonderful... close to the Velious quest armors. Recommended level is 45th, though.

Anyway, good cheap gear:
Skull-Shaped Barbute. HP and Magic Resistance... still hard to find much better.
Ry'Gorr. Cheap and useful for certain spots. I'm not wearing any right now, but I considered more than a few pieces.
Gothic Plate. As mentioned above.
Crustacean Shell gear. Nice Str and Sta. Small hits to Agi, Cha, and rarely Dex. Not bad for a few different slots and cheap.
Hero Bracer. Got mine for 200 plat, though I've seen them go up to 1500 pp. Keep an eye out for a cheap one.
Chitinous Belt. Cheap, nice AC and stats IF you don't have a haste item there.
Shield of the Arisen Cultist. Can be a nice cheap back item if you can find one (relatively uncommon).
Gauntlets of the Black. Not the best, but dirt cheap.
Rings: Platinum or Velium Fire Wedding Rings... AC 6 / 65 HPor AC 5 / 55 HP. Nice item regardless of your level.
Neck: Spider Fur Collar is a nice cheap item. Glimmering Mithril Torque has nice AC (15 +2 str, if memory serves), dirt cheap.
Earrings: Orc Fang Earrings are one of the best cheap choices. AC, HP, and some strength. Go for about 25-50 pp.

Haste Items: Silver Chitin Hand Wraps about 3k (22% with some stats) or Flowing Black Silk Sash (21%, no stats) about 2k.
Regen: Ceremonial Iksar Chestplate. Around 6.5k. Very, very nice if you can afford it.

Weapons: Centi Short Sword (1HS) or Stone Bladed Axe (1HS) have been nice low-level weapons. Find a fast 2HS for lower levels (Ornate Rune Blade is 19/30) and a slower, higher damage one at mid-levels (I like the Argent Protector, but that's around 3.5k on my server). Centi War Hammer is a good 1HB that is, again, very cheap. It is a bit slow (around 15/31, if memory serves), but hits hard after the damage caps start coming off.

Duel-Wield is around 13th, I believe. Double-Attack is around 15th.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. I am not as concerned with the items being cheap as I am with not having to replace them 3 times between now and lvl 40, for instance. I would rather pay more now for armor that will carry me longer than to buy a lot of things I will have to replace a lot as I level. Without cable or DSL, I don't like to spend a lot of time in a trader stall if I can help it. Don't know if that changes opinions - the items listed look like they might work for quite a few lvls.

is your warrior tribunal or rallos zek? if not my advice is to stop right now and make another warrior with either rallos zek or tribunal as your deity, cultural stuff is really nice for those two. the stuff itself is recommded 45 so not too good for the first few lvls but once you hit the full 45 its really nice warrior armour with lotsa hp and AC, its smithed so you may have to ask around a bit for it, but if you can get someone to make it for ya its really worth having - check out my warriors magelo for the tribunal version. Good advice, and I did choose a diety - Tribunal. I had actually searched a little first and saw that the Helenic Tundra armor was really nice. Its the between stages between here and there that I was shaky on. I managed to get him to lvl 5 last night and will be running the route suggested by Sparwhawk (FOB to Kurn's to PC and beyond) starting now. I'm having more fun with pure melee than I thought I would having only played the Druid before. I have kick and slam/bash hotkeyed and assigned to the left and right arrows, so those skills are increasing nicely. Also hotkeyed/macroed taunt to the end key, right above the arrows. I hit the keys almost every time the action is available, and they're leveling nicely. 1HS is at 30 or so...time to switch to 2HS. Haven't spent any training points yet, but I may after tonight's hunts. I want this toon to be an aggro/damage sponge and be able to inflict as much pain as possible. The advice here has really helped me focus on the best way to do it - thanks again!
