I am a college student playing everquest. Or maybe I should say I am an everquest student occasionally pretending to be in class so I can play everquest. I play everquest every day for 5 or more hours a day. This game is starting to have a serious impact on my school work and attendence. For some reason though I still feel like playing everquest and when I do go to class ONCE a week I feel proud. I can tell I am addicted but dont really care >^_^< Is this wrong??

You're blowing off classes that you (or someone, anyway) is shelling out significant amounts of money for to play a game?

Yes. That's wrong. Go to class. Or at least drop out and stop wasting thousands of dollars.

well said. IRL should always come before a game, and school more so then most things.

Why don't you set yourself up an EQ time? It can be huge at first but narrow it down a couple of minutes each day and stick to it. Use an alarm clock and stop when you mean to stop.

Mine is easy during the week. I know I have to get up for work at 5:45 am so I know I have to be off by 11:30 at the very latest. I just make sure I don't start playing until 8:00 at the earliest. It's tough sometimes but I can usually find something that needs to be done around the house to keep my mind off of it. Now the weekends are another story Smiley: smile

Sometimes I find that I need to step away from it for a week or so when I find myself playing to much.

Bottom line is, if you feel like you are playing too much you proabably are. Also know that it happens to allot of people its not just you. If you set limits, and stick to them you will be fine and you will probably find your playtime more enjoyable to boot.

YMMV

Do a good job in school.
Get a good job making decent money without too much overtime, good sicktime/holiday and vacation benefits.

Remember, it's all an investment so you can continue to afford EQ.

Go to school and get your degree. Get your Master's, you'll be very glad you did. It's only 2 more years. Then, you can take that uber salary and invest it in the top of the line computer you've always wanted and you'll never again lag in the bazaar.

Then, you can hire some of the losers you used to go to school with that couldn't make it to class because they were hooked on Evercrack. Fire them and buy their EQ accounts and sell them on Ebay.

Don't blow off the classes - blow off a weekend, sure, but going to the classes may quite likely end up being some of the most valuable set of hours (benefit per hour) you see in your lifetime.

Now - instead of going home and getting on EQ during lunch, you've just talked me into going for a workout.

Take care of your head, take care of your body, take care of your spirit - everything else comes naturally after that. Lose one, and it's "Game Over."

You need to learn to budget your time. I got married a few months ago so my online gaming time went way down. I need to make sure my wife doesn't get neglected for some silly game (and that is what it is in the long haul).

Make sure you handle school first, j00 1337 skillZ second :P

Very good answers here.

A very neat thing about EQ is that you do not get "behind". Think of it as more fun, the longer it takes you to level, so you won't get bored or tired of it. If you are patient you can have a lot of fun, and leave a mule in the bazaar so when you can't play, you can be earning money for when you do play. My mule is the best thing I ever did, and I never have to worry about selling anymore or money.

And remember RL is always more important due to such pesky addictions as eating, wearing clothes, having shelter and so on.
'Cause if you have to live on the streets there is NO place for your PC.
