I got a deluxe sewing kit last night. When I try to put stuff in it, it's a pain in the *** to switch out of the new tradeskill UI and into the old Experiment UI. It is teh win!!1

That and enough crap No Drop food to feed an army. Well, if it wasn't No Drop. I only spent 1k total though.

Weren't these taken out of the game?

Sounds like a great prize if I'm thinking of the right item.

Greets

Hmm..I spent around 60k and got the following:

Two Gold Tickets which got me links are below.

Glowing Black Drum (summons drogmor) which is about 15% faster than my Giant Black Drum.

The Rubicite Breastplate.

Don't know if this helps but put one token in each of the slots when you turn in tokens to the NPC. Thats how I was playing anyway.

I need to get a Ranger wearable guise of the deciever. Without it, I am not truly "old school" despite having been there when the school was being built. Oh well.

so why did they shut it down this time? And where in SH was it.

5K bets? Well, I suppose you could stack tokens in the individual slots... but I never bothered trying since most NPC's will eat/give back stacked items. In case you didn't get to try the casino, this is how it works:

1. You buy a token from a waitress for 100-160 (or so) pp, depending on CHA.

2. Give these tokens to one of the "dealers". I always gave them one at a time, again, assuming that stacked tokens would just get eaten.

3. Win some crappy stat food, more tokens, a firework, velious quest gem, various other stuff, or golden ticket.

4. Turn in the golden ticket to somebody to claim a "big prize". I can't tell you who to turn them into, being as I never won one...

I spent right around 4k and won a ton of stat food and a few fireworks. If the stacking doesn't eat tokens, then I can see how it may seem to work to get you better prizes, but what you have to consider is he bid 5k, that's like trying the way I did 50 times, except at once. I doubt it gives you a better chance to win since I know somebody that won a golden ticket doing it the same way I did. And as far as the items that don't drop anymore, that was some of the incentives to play. They openly said you could win holgresh elder beads, which don't drop anymore, and my necro would pay 100k for.

Yeah, I bet monks will love this weapon. Nice for ping pong aggro.

I wonder how many hundreds of thousands pieces of platinum were taken out of the game this time.

I can hear the SoE devs laugh again. Loud.

Sorry to Vinh but have to say that I haven't laughed so hard for ages - the comment about spending 12K and getting veg stew really cracked me up!

I also sated my curiousity in the new casino, went through about 2K and got nothing usable - it's definitely a mug's game.

I can see a real benefit in the new casino, however. Recently bazaar prices have sky-rocketed, and generally it's been blamed on surplus PP in the economy created by several exploits since resolved by SOE (npc bankers who can't count living in dungeons, indeed).

One outcome of the new casino will be removing large amounts of surplus (read lazy) PP from the game economy, which in turn should reflect in saner prices in the bazaar - the casino in effect is an endless PP sink. I think SOE have figured this aspect quite nicely.

At any rate, my new gambler's anonymous counselling service is doing great business in SH at 5pp per session!

Cheers all.

Well, here's the story. You can win and win big. I played in the range of 10K and got my gold ticket. Not bad if I had stopped there, but I continued to play until I have spent a total of about 50K. I can well afford that, and much more, so it would be no loss if I had gotten nothing.

By the time I had gone through 50K I had accumulated many stacks of stat food (let's all get excited), many many quest gems, lots of other little goodies and two deluxe sewing kits.

Still not much you say? Nope, that's what I thought. Then I turned in the gold ticket and got a holgresh elder beads. Now to me that still looked like garbage, and I thought I'd have to sell it for a few thousand plat and eat the loss.

I play on Stromm server, and there have never been elder beads drop, I hear. Well, I was listening to the auction channel and someone said they wanted to buy holgresh elder beads. I simply asked for a price check on holgresh elder beads, including a link in my request.

Now the frenzy this started was literally amazing. I received five tells from people that were desperate to say the least. The first offered to give me 100K immediately for it. My jaw dropped! Obviously I had made a profit in the casino.

The next three offered 200K, 250k etc. and then the trade offers started coming in. They were willing to give me just about anything for those beads.

Two more dropped out at 250 and 300K, and I had two offering me more and more items, one with 170K plat and some very nice items. I went back and forth with both of them until I started feeling decidedly guilty for even considering taking one of their offers, and finally one dropped out.

I ended up getting a rubicite breastplate (also won with a gold ticket by that player), eight other items worth anywhere from 10K to 60K, and the 170K plat that was all the cash she had. On Stromm, the sale of those items should net me in the range of a half million plat.

So, now you know the answer. The casino is worth it in my opinion. But please, never play more than you can afford. As in real life, I do not plan to play any more than I can afford to lose and still walk away happy with the results. I still have all my armor, plenty of plat and whatever else a nice little druid needs to kill those darned griffons.

I have seen a few folks talk about plat being taken out of the game. Unfortuneately, some folks who have dropped a lot of plat in the casino and in tribute items will just be buying it back.
But at least it's a start.
#22 Feb 13 2004 at 1:57 PM Rating: Decent
Stromm server? Those are some mighty bids for such a young economy. I wonder how much of that plat was created by exploit and then purchased on-line?

Thank you, Sunshine, for providing us with a perfect illustration of the problems this casino was designed to counteract.

.....

It's becoming Argentina on the EQ servers! People, if you want to beat this thing, just forget about the bazaar for a few weeks. Boycott. Dont worry so much about your precious gear and don't buy anything new. Just go play with what you have. Or play naked if that suits you, and set an example. (Calling all monks and casters...can I get an AMEN!?) Let the traders panic amongst themselves for a while.

Offical word on the Casinos from Rod Humble:
The first two primetimes (6:45PSt - 7:30PST) of GoD launch were just terrible. Clearly its unnaceptable to have such issues primetime when record high numbers of people wanted to play. We apologize.

If you care (and there is no reason you should), it was related to our old favourite the casino which simply is too popular. Everytime we put it up with another fix to "handle the load" the load gets even bigger than last time and causes huge instability across the entire server. Next time it goes up it will not break EQ..honest

Just a mention about the Deluxe Sewing Kits.

A large sewing kit used to have 10 slots. For some reason the powers that be decided to change it to 8 slots. Those of us who had the 10 slot sewing kits now had a "Deluxe Sewing Kit". They were never available for sale under that item name, but the existing ones are still in the game.

I never did figure out why they changed the number of slots. Some recipes require all 10 slots (Wu armor comes to mind.)

I've still got at least 4 Deluxe sewing kits in the bank.
