Accessing the PlanesFollow

I just reached level 46 last night, and I'm not sure where to start. Looking in the Zones section here at Alla's I didn't find any information. The Flag progression chart was also pretty confusing. Could one of you please explain what I need to do to get started with this or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Your best bet at lvl 46 is to try Plane of Justice. Most of the zone isn't KoS so you won't get ganked at the zonein and it has the easiest mobs of any of the xp grind planes (I would still consider PoF/PoG to be raid zones).

At lvl 46, you can enter the planes of Knowledge (duh), Tranquility (sort of a hub plane to other planes), Justice, Nightmare, Disease (the three first PoP grind planes), Fear, Growth, Hate (raid zones mostly, though Hate was changed to more of an xp grind), Sky (raid/quest zone) and Mischief which is sort of a puzzle zone turned grind zone turned puzzle zone. Don't ask.

Access to the other planes is done via either flagging (through quest or killing a boss) or levels. At 55, access to some more planes is opened even if you never did the flagging. At 62, further access is opened to you. There's a nice post in the quest forum with links detailing planar progression so I won't repeat it all here.

At level 46 you can enter Plane of Tranquility, Plane of Justice, Plane of Innovation, Plane of Disease, and Plane of Nightmare.

The reason it gets confusing after that is that there used to be a required progression of flags, etc, as denoted by this link. HOWEVER nowadays to get access to some of the planes all you have to do these days is be level 51, 56 or 62(?). Gaining access via levels does not move you along towards the elemental planes but it does open up new exp zones.

Hope that helps a little. For the next few levels I'd stay in Plane of Justice anyway. Most of the planar zones are pretty rough at 46.

Oh, heh. Forgot to mention other planes. The old world planes (Hate, Fear and Sky) are totally accessible at level 46, but don't go alone. In fact don't go with a raid until you've secured 46 with a two-death margin.

Can't emphasize that enough about sight-seeing in old-world planes. The design criteria are totally different than PoP planes and much less forgiving, although the loot is mostly junk and the mobs only worth raiding for epics.

My Sunday afternoon was messed up by a druid going into Fear "to explore" which involved several hours of CR to assemble enough people to recover them safely. It is a messy zone and aggro is very strange.

Equally some do not have exits. Growth and Mischief have no exit you have to port, Gate or TL out. Sky you cannot even port but must jump off.

Old Planes come as a bit of a shock to those used to the nice safe zone ins and handy graveyards of PoP zones.

Has anyone purchased the PoP Prima guide? Is it worth buying? I found the Shadows of Luclin Prima guide to be quite useful for overall background/lore information, AA, special servers, and a general feeling for the zones. Overall I would give it a grade of a B. Is the PoP Prima guide a good idea for a newbie to the planes, or is it pretty much a re-hash of already printed material?

I haven't been, but it's my understanding that there is a tree in PoM you can click to get dropped into Cobolt Scar. Of course, now you have to find a way home from Cobolt Scar, but it's a start... heh

Thanks for the info, that cleared up alot. But it also brought a few more questions. If I understand this correctly, I no longer have to get flagged for a plane, I just have to reach the required level for entry? If that's true, can you still do the flag quests and gain enterance before reaching the required level? Thanks again.

There's a couple ways to enter the planes:
(1) Level. Certain planes become accessible after level 55. Some others after 62. Many are never opened simply by virtue of your level.
(2) Quest. Some of the "locked" planes can be opened via a quest. Quests are typically one groupable, though it might take several play sessions to collect all the quest components.
(3) Flagging. This involves raiding and killing boss mobs. Flagging is available for all the PoP Tier 2+ planes and is required if you want to get into the elementals and Time. A plane you quested for does not count as being flagged for it. As well, getting a planar flag will grant you one AA and some stats to a planar charm you get free in PoK after you hit lvl 51.

It is possible for a lvl 46 to gimp along on flagging raids and eventually get Time access from what I understand. I don't know what the point would be, beyond novelty, but there you have it.

This is all regarding PoP planes. Older planes are all accessed at 46 just by entering the portal or else getting a port there in the case of Sky and Hate.

DO NOT zone into plane of fear yourself. You are dropped immediatly into the aggro radius of several very high level MOBS that will proceed to eat you alive and you will probably need a small raid just to get your corpse back.
