Best 2box character comboFollow

#1 Feb 08 2004 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
I am thinking about getting back into EQ with two machines and two accounts. What is the best 2box combos?

Thanks

no such thing as a best 2box combo, but there are some easy combos to work with:

sham/monk
sham/sk
sham/pally
cleric/monk
cleric/sk (one of my personal favs)
cleric/pally
nec/rogue
nec/sk
nec/wiz

and a handful more. try to avoid combos were either toon requires 100% attention such as bard, chanter, etc.

bst/dru works well

I would hardly say that an enchanter needs 100% of your attention. A bard would be an unsuitable box because you would never get the full use out of it because it wouldn't be able to twist full time. I have a Ranger/Enchanter and they are an easy flawless box unless you plan on using archery with the ranger and then the DPS will take a drop everytime you have to switch to then enchanter.
A chanter just has to slow, cripple, nuke in most situations. nuff' said.

The most effective 2boxer I've ever met was playing an enchanter and shadow knight. Constant haste made his melee damage very formidable with an already quick 2hs, or that MoSS, and the breeze/clarity let him fear kite all day. When he got into a tough pinch(about to die, a nasty add..) he had mez and charm at his finger tips. He impressed me.

I'd imagine any tanker/melee type(pally, SK, warr) and a cleric would be a good combination, or a necro and a good damage class(monk, rogue).

Druid and Enchanter are the most powerful 2 box combo I've used yet. Just charm a pet or even use the chanter shield pet and buff the crap out of it and put a damage shield on it and let it tank.

Id have to say cleric / shadowknight. Sk's can tank very well, put out some mean damage, and have mild CC skills as far as feign death for pulling and fear. Put a cleric behind him with some stuns, maybe undead nukes (depending on the situation), and complete heal, and your good to go.

i have worked bard/wiz combo.

put my wiz on some basic macros as my bard did all the rest of the work.

this worked great into mid 30s, then things started hitting way to hard and bard could not survive even getting mob to 50% before wiz nuked. not to mention that the bard has no way to pull agro once the wiz nukes if root breaks.

macros i used for wiz looked much like this:

/sit off
/cast X
/pause X + 100 (extra 10 seconds)
/sit on

this let me alt+tab over, hit 1 button, check for fizzle, alt+tab back and be back to twisting before 3sec was up so i seldom droped a song in my twist. mind you i only kept 3 songs twisting when 2boxing just for safty margin instead of my normal 4, but it was doable.

id not try it now that im mid 50s. mobs would rip my pour bard to shreads even with best shammy/cleric buffs out there id not last long vs a mob in melee situations.

i do like the wiz/nec 2box. heck i even PL my wiz this way. nec pulls with dark, wiz nukes until mob is at 40% life, pet finishes off mob. nice simple way to PL my wiz. nec can then feed wiz mana when wiz gets low so who needs KEI or CII. wiz can only take CII atm.

No, boxing a bard works in some situations. Just avoid boxing bard with another class that requires a lot of attention. Bard+mage/wizard and bard+rogue/ranger combos are ones I often work with.

In my own humble opinion I would have to say the best combo is the SK/CLR. Not saying that it is the best but it works very well with me. Clr sits back and heals everyonce in a while and sometimes does a DD spell, while the SK and pet goes all out and kills the mob. SK can FD when ever and CLR is safe. But if you do go the SK/CLR way have in mind that you still need a porter to get both of them around.

So my solution to that was just make a basic druid, outfit him/her with basic gear pwrlvl them up so they can port anywhere and then use that Druid to pwrlvl another druid on the other account and WALA you now can get your SK/CLR ported almost anywhere.

I know it sounds like a lot of work but really it is very easy and will take no time at all.

Hope that help you out so ENJOY and have fun.

I dont two box (computers are purposely too far apart so I dont decide to try) but I do play with my RL fiancee. He has a mage and an sk both of appropriate level and both work quite well with my druid. We have been messing around with some alts and the one thing I would say is make sure one of them can heal. When we play with a combo where neither can heal it is frustrating because you might have mana but without the heals you have to wait or be very careful until health comes back up. We have been using a necro and a chanter some and that has worked out well - I dont know how that combo would be for 2 boxing (might be a little messy when charm breaks) but it does ok once the necro get the healing spells. I would still tend to go with a traditional healing class (cleric, druid, shaman) We miss the porting ability without the druid but that is minor compared to the heals.

I two box monk and enc both lvl 55 atm and still duo pretty easy

naoko, i could see that as a very powerful combo. great melee dps, and great haste/slow/debuff plus extra tank in pet if you let chanter pull.

that could be sweet combo, just missing heals.

I would go for BL + Clr or DRu-- probably cleric for paci/single pulls and bigger heals. BL gives you tank/dps/slow and mana regen-- cleric for HP/rezzes/pacify.

BL are just all around awesome.

I 2box a Shaman and Paladin.Shaman keeps mobs slowed and Paladin hasted/buffed and healed.Paladin tanks and buffs hps/ac on both. Has worked almost flawless for 58 lvls now. Once we hit 45 to get C3, leveling has been super fast.

The best 2 player group I've ever been in was me, a 62 necro, and my friend, a 63 druid.

Regen, 3 min snare, dots and sow, with necro dots, pet and /gasp, twitches, make for a really good combo. We could kite froggies in PoS all day with little to no med time. Now if you can only find necros that will group with druids and vice versa ;)

id rather group with a sham. most of the dots will stack, and better all around buffs for a nec and higher DPS with the sham, vs druid.

not the big nukes from the sham as you could from druid, but you will not need them with slow. no need for haste from sham as necs pet buffs are better haste for the level anyways.

plus you have 2 tanks, well both semi tanks, but with slow who really cares.

not real powerful until late 40s, mid 50s, but almost unstoppable post mid 50s.

Necro/Druid still better IMHO. I will tell you why...

1. All their dots stack and are powerful for their level.

2. Both can snare. Druid snare one of the most mana efficient, least resisted and longest lasting in game.

3. Druid root the most powerful in game. Necro can root undead at lower level and gets regular root at level 34 at which time both can root.

4. Druid DS only surpassed by Mage DS.

5. This duos DD spells excellent for level and cover Fire, Ice, Magic, Disease, Poison. In other words all the categories. Both eventually get debuffs so their nukes are less resisted.

6. Both have the ability to charm. Druids-animals, Necros-undead. Once both get Dire Charm they can own a place like Plane of Valor for fantastic XP/loot.

7. Druid can port, succor and later on Exodus. Extremely valuable and an ability not to be underestimated.

8. Druid can also SoW and SoE. And Wolf form is faster then SoW and adds ATK buff.

8. Necro pet is great at lower levels, and at higher levels rocks! With Girdle of Magi`Kot, Mask of Mardu and Fists of Ixiblat the necro pet at lower levels kicks butt. I put this combo on my level 30 Necro's pet and we fear kite HG's in RM, the pet procs the Fist of Ixiblat at least once per battle, more often two or three times. Cost me about 20pp donation to get a mage to summon, or can buy in bazaar alot of the time.

9. Necro can fear and in dungeons mez and memblur undead. Outdoors Druid can harmonize.

Shamans and Druids are comparable healers until post level 60 where a Druid starts to pull away. And in reality most of the time the only member of this duo that might need a heal is the pet. Sure, a Shaman has some better melee buffs but Druid buffs are quite sufficient in this combo.

Simply put a Druid/Necro combo is a killing machine, especially a fear kiting killing machine. I know...I partner my 53 Druid alt with a friends 55 Necro alt and we own wherever we go. We have owned since both of these toons were in the single digits. Didn't have to wait to the mid 50's to do so.

I do Shaman/Paladin.

All but their AC buffs stack, so pally is buffed to the teeth.

Between pally regen buff, shaman regen buff, fungi tunic (or iksar BP if you don't have a fungi), a couple HP regen augs and Regen VIII from tribute points the pally regens around 45 per tick, and that's still only using the 10/tick shaman buff. Haste from shaman, stopped using yaulp for a little while since I was at 15 buff max and my str was at 255 anyway.

Pally can lull (well up to level 55 mobs anyway, but I'm 52 so good for now), pulls with 2 stuns for agro. Shaman slows and does one or two dots, sends in buffed wolf pet, then hit my canni macro (stand, canni x3, sit) while pally & wolf beat on it. If my health actually starts to drop below 80%, pally HoT works fine. Sometimes have shaman stand and stab mob with his spear to make sure weapon skill stays capped.

Honestly it's too easy sometimes, have to go look for yellows to make sure I don't get bored. Undead yellows are a breeze with Nife proc going off left and right since my dex is around 235 (Shaman IoS stacks with dex/str buff).

I duo but my pair's levels are a bit off. 60 cleric and 50 ranger. The important part is that the ranger has a Swarmcaller to proc slow, else he'd get chewed up too easily. Once those two get closer in levels, they'd make a very good pair. I just need to spend more time PLing the ranger that way.

Also, as a side note, it's better to use 2 adjacent computers than to alt-tab on one box, if you're co-ordinated enough to control a character with each hand simultaneously.

My main 2-box is shaman + druid, which works pretty well. Actually, shaman + pretty much any class works pretty well, since shamans are very much a generalist class. Essentially, when I duo the shaman/druid, if the mob's slowed DPS exceeds the 300/tick regen from Quiescence, I use him as a supplemental healer and toss DoTs on the mob when possible. If the mob's slowed DPS is low enough for shaman self-heals to keep up, I use the druid as pure added DPS. The nice thing is that he's flexible enough to contibute nicely with excellent DoTs if my strategy is root/rot. Or he adds even more DPS using nukes & rains & dmg shields if I'm tanking the mob.

That said, I've been bringing along an SK on the second box for those cases where you really do want a plate tank on the mob rather than having the shaman tank it. Shamans have crappy natural mitigation and almost no defensive skills, so are really crappy tanks compared with plate tanks. SK bring some key things to the duo: snare, FD pulling, good plate tanking, pretty solid DPS, excellent agro.

My main duo partner is a ranger. This duo works well also, with the ranger bringing a bit more damage, slightly better agro, but tanking not quite as well.

I think if I were creating a duo from scratch, I'd strongly consider making a "2 pet class" duo, the best of which would probably be "magician + necro".

Bard and Wizard combo is very good. You just gotta know how to play them.

The bard is your most used toon. Wizard just sit there. You make a hotbutton for wizard to assist you, stand, nuke, and then sit back down. With the bard you set your songs with haste, regen (mana and health), snare, and fear. You pull the mobs over by where your wizard is camped. Snare it, Fear it, then go to work. With your wizard, hit the hotbutton twice a fight for alittle under 50% of the dmg, and finish him off with the bard. If your wizard isnt in your group, your exp will be flowin.

only combo i've ever tried like this is cleric + necro and cleric + mage. both work really well.

with the nec/clr combo, the cleric buffs work nicely to give the lower level pets the edge to keep them from dying, and the heals ensure the necro can worry about pure DPS. plus the necro can feed the cleric mana and the clereic can single pull.

with the mage/clr combo it almost seems unfair. mage pets are extreme as it is. throw in cleric buffs, heals, single pulling and stuns and wow!

its nice for both because the focus stays mainly on the pet class. you only really have to switch over to cast a heal or pull something. I've even effectively used both these combos on 1 machine.

another interesting combo i'm trying soon is a chanter with the mage. worries me a little about the lack of heals, but the mana regen would be nice as well as debuffs.

Best box for me would be Bard and Magician. Best pulls and best Tank. Easy combo.
