Ranger damage.Follow

I have a Level 17 ranger(just got dual wield) and I am trying to find the best weapon combo for the most damage. I wield a Frostbringer in the Primary and switch back and forth between a Centi short sword and a Whip of Stangulation. Is this a good combo or is there a better one. I don't have a Ton of plat but if you can suggest a better weapon please do.

Since damage/delay is bugged on recommended, get a lammy/stained axe combo. PWNage.

I use the Sword of the Bloodswarm/stained axe of the scions combo at 52.

The last time I played my rogue alt I noticed my Legendary Dagger of Might having a lower max hit. I think the bug has been fixed in one of the last couple of patches. Smiley: frown

Since you just got dual wield, you may want to forget about damage for now and just get the fastest weapon you can for your offhand, since you won't be doing much except raising your DW skill for awhile. When my ranger got DW I stuck a FS dagger in secondary and fearkited animals to get the skill up. After that, general consensus is fastest weapon in primay, best ratio in offhand.

I would buy whatever you can afford that will be good post 50. Don't worry about the reccommended level because the lower levels go so fast anyway, but don't buy anything where the rec level with mess with the ratio too much.
I would suggest Stained Axe of the Scions and Club of the Ice Ocean. The club can't cost more than a few hundred plat if that and the axe was dropping really rapidly the last time I checked.

Club of the Ice Ocean has a Required level of 51.

Anything with good ratio will work. Avoid fast hitting weapons, espeically at high 40's where mobs start to hit too hard for a ranger to tank. Fast weapons = more agro than a ranger can handle.

At level 50's, when you get the Jolt spell, then you can stop worrying about agro too much. Go for the most damaging weapons at that level but keep in mind that you may go oom often casting jolt to reduce agro, if you go for procing weapons.

Lastly, don't forget 2 hand weapons. Good 2h weapons out damage (windblade, blade of warmarshell or something like that, for example) the best dropable 1 hand weapons dual wielded. And in the occations where you are called upon to tank, 2h weapons gives you fewer riposit damages from mob. Before my ranger became an archer, I've aways used windblade to do my dmg. I parsed my ranger's dps when he was at about level 60. Result was about 70 - 100 dps with windblade, and about 50 - 70 dps with 14/21 weapon in main hand and 13/21 in off hand. (magelo profile is out of date)

At such a low level, I would pass on the Staind Axe of the Scions; you wont get any damage out of it.

I used a Lammy/Centi SS combo for a while, but I was poor.

If you have some plat burning a hole in your pocket, go to the bazaar and splurge on a Centi LS and a JBoM. That's a great combo all the way up to the 40's and even into the 50's when you get the full effect of the good ranger weapons.

If not, anything that has a good ratio and a delay that is less than 30 is good until you get some cash.

for raising ur skills i suggest fast weps but as a ranger your gonna want some high dmg high delay weps, you dont wanna be getting agro from the tanks and getting ur paper tank butt ripped apart lol.

WURMSLAYER, a 25 damage / 40 delay 1hs weapon is probably the best ratio droppable weapon you can get, at least until you get much higher level and your damage bonus starts becoming much more important. Wurmy has 2 nice benefits for the ranger. First, it's got a fantastic ratio for a 1hander. Second, since it's kinda slow you aren't nearly as likely to pull agro off the MA.

I'd stick a Wurmy in primary and in secondary get a quick high ratio weapon, preferably something other than 1hs, so you'll keep more than one of your skills maxed.

Once I've maxed out skills in a given level, I use Wurmy and a Centi Longsword for my low level ranger.

Jagged Blade of Mourning 1HS 13/25 500pp

Crystaline Spider fang 1HP 10/22 200pp

Smoldering Brand 1HB 9/22 200pp or if you have the cash...
Guard Captains Mallet 1HB 11/20 2.5k

Silver Swiftblade 2HS 16/24 200pp

These are my recommendations.

2 Cents worth, FAST FAST FAST !!! Dont worry about the Damage a Frosty or Centi does, Think about the Number of times you can Hit a MOB! at Lower levels there are Damage caps (Meaning in SOme cases say you have a 23 Dam sword, you Might still Only do Max 20 dam, where you could use a faster less dam and still be able to do the same 20 Max dam but more Often)....
... Also at Lower levels your atack and skills are Lower and you Will Miss More often, So if your swinging a Slow weapon you Miss will cause you to do Less damage, so if choosing between say a 18 Delay and a 36 Delay I would go with the Speed and strike 2 times as many times giving you More Chances to do the damage.

1 More Cents worth, Rangers are DPS (Damage Per Second) and Not MT (Main Tanks) So whle warrior is taking the beating were Doing MOST the damage (Preferably from Rear or Side were Monster isnt Blocking or Parring our Blows) and with Lower damage well Not gain agro as often but with Speed to strike More times giving a Better Percentage of Contacting Mob.

Soem Might say this is Incorect, those are the rangers who have to be healed alot, Ive Pharsed many a Battle and till Higher level this remains true.

Just curious as to what level you are referring to with "higher levels". I know personally beginning around mid-40's I had to work to not get aggro. There was a time when if not using 2HS I could barely keep aggro on the MT. I always found that the faster I attacked the worse this was (ie: from haste). Of course, now that I have jolt, in most groups I can start whacking away immediately and not take more than 1 hit per fight. And that's with 2 aggro procs popping like mad when Focused.
