i am still fairly new and not very high level yet
so i have never had much oppurtunity see a horse

my question is this what is the point?
i know you can move fast on them and can med while moving is there any thing else to them?

Nope. That's about it.

The medding while on a mount is the key point. It really is a great benefit when you can use it.

The speed is dubious. Some very high level horses obtained via mob drops or the Knight class AAs are very fast. The most expensive ones are also fast, but the more affordable ones are slow pokes and if you really wanted speed you are better off with a SoW potion.

Adendum...

One of the really cool things to see in the world of Norrath is a raid party setting off across a zone with everyone mounted on their horses and drolvags.

Really neat.

On ocasions like this, just to add to the scene Iluien and Celeni use wolf form, must take a picture of it next time.

I wish I could see a raiding party ride off, mounted on Drolvargs.

Where do you get a drogmor? Stables? Also, and this is prolly a dumb question, but can you sow your mount?

Drogmors are sold at the lighthouse in Gunthak. Gnome merchant next to the banker sells the drums (same thing as a bridle for a horse). I think the drums rank small, medium, big and biggest or somesuch where size corresponds to Drogmor speed (as opposed to the rope, leather, silk and chain system for horses)

Horses can not be SoWed. Mounts are essentially a buff with a graphic attached. So you can't kill horses, buff them, or whatever.

If I'm not mistaken (and I might be cause I'm way too young to have a mount...), another benefit of a horse is that you don't get "sitting" aggro while fighting.

A few minor corrections...

AFAIK, you get sitting meditation while mounted and standing still, but not while moving. And while mounts may be a bit slower than runspeed buffs, the real drawback is the very low acceleration/deceleration rate. Horses don't immediately move at top speed.

You don't get sit aggro on a mount at any time. The movement issue can be a real prob because it takes you about 1.5 secs to stop and if you cast before you are completely stopped you get a interrupted spell. A mount is said to give you about 8 extra mana per tick beacuse you are regening mana while doing everything except when moving. I believe you regen mana like you were medding even while casting a spell.

You cannot forage on a mount and the mount eats alot of food which can be a issue if you are using stat food. Mounts can also only be used outdoors.

If you ask me the best thing to do is get the cheap mount for raids or groups where your basically just standing there and not having to move. It really makes a big diffrence on mana regen. But they have a limited use.

I have a hotkey programed with the /dismount command to get off my horse if I am ever in trouble and need to move fast. It helps alot.

Though I'm a warrior and have no need of a mount (unless I want to pretend to be a Pally), here's what my caster friends have told me about horses.

The biggest advantage is lack of sit-aggro, while still getting mana regen as if sitting. One of my guildies made an exhaustive study of mana regen while bored one time, and found that No, you don't regen mana while moving, and faster than you would unmounted. Nor do you regen mana faster while attacking or casting. Only while standing still. But at least it means you don't have to worry about a mob pounding on you just because you sat down to med.

Drawbacks of horses:
They can't be SoW'd, so if you got a cheap horse, your movement speed could be lower than without them.
You can't use them indoors.
You can't use "ducK" while on a horse...so you need to actually move if you need to interrupt a spell for any reason.
Horses eat like...well....like horses. So upkeep can get rather pricey.

Now, whether you still think it's better to have one than not is for you to decide. I'm just a warrior, I don't know first hand =)

IMO the single best thing about the mounts is the no sit aggro. This is more handy at higher levels where mobs just dont like you medding mid fight. Its great to be able to slow a mob and then just back up a step or two and not have to worry about losing half my life from the max hits you take when your sitting.

Personally ive had the faster horses and think they are just a waste. The issues with starting/stopping make them far less attractive for travel/pulling than my trusty sow boots.

Unless you get a dropped bridle i would suggest just buying the cheapest one you can get as its just as good.
