My First RaidFollow

Well, I did it. My first target raid. Last night, my new guild decided that Velk the Sorcerer was a good target of opportunity, so we mounted a force and raced off to the Labyrynth. Mounting the force was no easy task, as it was 11:00 PM CST and our numbers drop mid-week around then.

Background - My guild is hovering around 60, some lower, some higher. Recently, we have been doing PO(I/J/F/N),POV,BOT level appropriate. Our best equipped people are in velious armor, but not a lot of those.

So anyway, we assemble the force of 16 (average level around 58) and head off to Velks. Now, two of our three clerics have never been in a CHeal Rotation before. One of them was my 48 RL friend who had never been in a really tight spot before. He learned a little last night. Grats Lex. So anyway, we finally get up the freakin ice ramp and assemble groups and what not in the clearing at the top. All buffed and ready to go, it is a cakewalk to the door to Velk's room. No deaths, no near deaths, good discipline. We are happy campers. We re-assemble at the door to his room, and med, re-state the strats, etc.

Then the pull. Gawd Dayam! I am a relative n00b. I have never seen anything hit that hard, and that often. We couldn't mez the two adds, so we split tanked em. Call was to kill those two off first while the MT stuck to the big guy like glue. After we got them killed, we moved to the main target and I will be damned if that fooker didn't still have like 98% life. THis is after 3 minutes of the tank beatin on him. Holy crap.

The call comes out for melee assist when he gets to 90%. Go go gadget ginsu machines. 3 warriors, top 65, and SK and yours truly keepin this fool pinned. The only casting at this point has been a couple of failed slows from a 65 shammy, and the heal rotation. After another few minutes we got him to 75% and the call goes out to the casters to start their nukage. It was very slow. Lots of resists, lots of HP. Once we got him to 30%, the call went out to unload, and boy did they. He went to 10% in about 2 minutes. Then the OoM calls start to cross the screen. Heals spread out, the MT is takin a beating.

He is dead. The MT goes down, and all hell breaks loose. In less than 2 minutes, we lose the 63 SK, the 62 warrior and the 53 warrior. Guess who was left?

At 9%, I begin to take a barrage of shots from this guy topping 600. I was gone in less than 15 seconds. I thought 4500 hp was a decent number. For a 52 Ranger not tanking a 66 mob, I guess it is. But on that mo fo, I got no respect.

At 1:30 in the morning, we decided to to a CR and blow. We got him to 6%. With the help of a 65 Necro, we all got corpses easily, and the rezzes were nice. But the taste of blood is on my tongue. Licking my wounds and finding just as much of that bastards blood on me as my own, I am now a fan of raiding.

Revenge will be ours.

Nice try, that guy is not really a pushover. The toughest thing is you have to be in melee range to cast. Next time get an FD to split the two guards and kill them first 8)
