I just got EQ Evolutions but i last time I played EQ was 4 years ago.
I'm looking on any info or advice on what kind of fighter/race combo is good. Last time I was a half elf paladin and after level 30 it was almost impossible to find a group.
I'm interested in something easy but not too easy to where it gets boring fast.
Also if any clans that use voice comms are looking for a dedicated mature player please email me: bush@thesuicidesquad.com
I know this question is as old as the game and annoyingly redundant but I am anxious to jump in the game and get started without spending hours of research.
What servers are good?
Many thanks in advance.

If you enjoyed your paladin, give it another shot. Back four years ago, paladins (and other hybrids) had a crippling xp penalty, mana penalties, casting reduced their DPS a significant amount, they took hits much worse than a warrior, etc.

Today, paladins have no penalties, have a wide array of spells that help them tank (perhaps most importantly the Stun line), have some excellent and often dirt cheap gear options and are quite sought after for groups for their role as tanks. The same can be said for Shadowknights by the way, though they remain much rarer it seems. Anyway, the knight classes today are a totally different game than they were in the beginning and through Kunark.

Race isn't super important, really. There's a few new young turks in the paladin game now: Gnomes can be paladins now but have crap stats for it. Halflings actually have decent stats but are pretty rare as paladins (though this may appeal to you). Frogloks are midline but people seems to pick them a lot for the kitch value. Dwarves are probably still the best statwise.

I have to agree with Jophiel there - as a half elf paladin, even with the recent boost that the warriors received, finding a group is not a problem - if i want one!

Shadowknights - well, last time i met a shadowknight he wanted to buy my pally, shocked I was - but then they are evil.

Have you thought about trying the test server and using the /testbuff (i think) feature which sets you off at twenty five with, again i think, average equipment. Its not something I have tried myself but I know it is out there if you want to check out playing a few different race/classe combos.

Good luck and welcome back which ever way you venture

Persoanlly beastlords are fun. If you are more of a hack and slash the mob person sk/pallys way better now than 4 years ago.
for more info on the classes go to eq.castersrealm.com check the spells for levels and what they do.

I would say go with a Necromancer. Gnome or Erudite so you're not KoS all over EQ. Faction can be attained in 2 hours. Max out your int, get some decent armor to last you till 35 and then share-bank about 500-600 plat for spells, components etc.

Necros are pretty fun to play and require quite alot of attention. Play your Necro well, and you'll be powerful in the lands of EQ.

Just my 2 cp.

I can only speak for Xev, but I've called that server home for quite a while now. 85% good people 15% jackwads. Strong showing during the evening EST, and the economy is starting to get back in order. of course YMMV
