Maybe it was a dumb question? I don't recall seeing it in any case...

I'm not sure what you mean by getting "xpacks" extremely often. Do you mean patches? You're going to get those regardless of how many expansions you own. If you mean something else then I have no clue what you are talking about.

The more expansions you buy, the more areas you can explore. You certainly don't need LDoN to have fun. However, at lower levels, it's a pretty good expansion for gaining both exp and loot. I would say just get Evolution and start playing. Make friends and explore the world first. If you like playing and want to do more, then look at other expansions. Ideally, there's no reason not to buy all the expansions if you really like the game. It costs the same amount per month to play either way. If it's worth the one time cost for an expansion, the go for it. Only you can decide that though.

EDIT: Ok. It just occured to me that you probably mean expansion packs. Um... I'm not sure what you mean by extremely often though. I'd say they release 1-2 a year. At a cost of about $25 bucks each on average, that's really not that much.

Start with Evolutions. The second you know you're hooked (it's okay, we're addicts too), buy all the expansions.

You're not going to enjoy when you can't keep hunting with your friends because they're going to zones you can't access.

Lets see....xpacks = expansion packs. Got that.

So, you cannot use LDON until around lvl 20 anyway. If you are new, you are bound to start a couple of characters and need time to ramp at least one up to the 20th level mark. If you stick that long, you will then want LDON. I think that the LDON adventure concept really makes the game fun. No need to get it prior to that unless you want to.

My experience has been that it is best to stay current with the xpacks, because they invariably will add something that is cool that you will want (damn you SOE...here is anoth $29!! lol). For instance, the NExus ports were huge when Luclin came out. PoK books are almost necessary to enjoy the game, so without PoP it would suck.

As for which is better...Hmmm. I prefer playing a mage, but wizzies are big nukers. I think it is a matter of personal pref although I am sure there are biased people on each side that will tell me I am wrong. I have not played either one beyond the mid 20s so what do I know. :-)
