Is it not possible to ban the sale of platinum online like they did selling characters over ebay? Wouldnt this get rid of the problem. Not completely, but mostly. I know that these big name sites are run like businesses and i do not think that they would continue there business if it was made illegal to do so....

It's not illegal to buy/sell plat or characters in Everquest. At least not in any criminal sense. SOE could go after someone for a breach of contract (provided they could prove the EULA constituted a legally binding contract) but it's doubtful they'd get much in the way of damages.

eBay stopped allowing plat/character sales because Sony is a big company with lots of money and lawyers and eBay, despite having money and lawyers themselves, figured it was easier to smile and nod and keep Sony happy rather than risk going to court over it. After all, eBay makes the majority of its money on things other than plat/char sales.

Folks like IGE and Yantis (now one and the same), however, make all their money off this stuff. They know that the chance of SOE taking them to court is minimal. They know that the chance of the court saying IGE owes SOE a bazillion dollars is even smaller. The chance of convincing some jury that your little online virtual dragon-world is being messed up by some other guy and he should pay you money for it is laughable.

In theory yes you probably could, in practice you would have to prove that selling Platinum online is against the law <NOT against the EULA the LAW and personally i think i could prove that is isn't and i am not a professional lawyer>. #

Then you would have to bring a US law case against a company based in Hong Kong <as shown from an earlier thread IGE seems to be based there.> and i don't think that would be a great idea too many loop hole to get caught up in that kind of action.

lastly and more importantly you would hve to police it. and as far as i know people still sell accounts on Ebay pretty much unstoped dispite the 'Ban'

the only way to really stop Pp sales is to make all Non tradeskill made item No Drop and i can't se them doing that somehow.

the thread linked by Alla has become very log now showing the feeling of the majority of subscriber to this site are AntiIGE but from personal experiance all my friends who play EQ have bought PP or accounts and see no problem with it.

I personally have never paid for Pp as i find it easy to make it in game via tradeskill items, but i don't see why i should impose my choise on others.

<xfered from other post to keep it all under one roof so to speak.>
