Saving training points - do or don't?Follow

After a few levels I stopped using my training points, as I couldn't decide what to use them for. Warriors have so many weapon skills, and I want to max them all, and not spend points where I could skill up. So I figured I'd save them and use them later.

When checking in with the GM today, I did notice I have 50 practices, which does not sound right to me, it should be an odd number.

Are training points capped? Any advice about when/how to spend them?

I don't know about the capping but about the training points:

-It's no use putting them into automated combat skills you have from the start or gain at early levels. Attack, Defense, Dodge etc. are triggered while fighting and work up to their skill cap most of the time. Even if one stays behind a bit the points are better spent elsewhere

-Skills that you have to activate like Bind Wound or Taunt obviously work up slower (although there are some skills you can train without actually having use at the moment for them like Sense Traps or Hide) So if there is one you use regularily but fail to often push it up.

-Tradeskills are only advisable to be fed with training points if you have to fill up a gap of 10-15 skill points where there is only unsuable crap to produce, no components easily available or so darn expensive that its cheaper to pay your trainer (above 1p only at higher levels of skill)

-Saving them up is always a good idea, you get skills that are only available at certain lvl to the amount of your current level so if you get p.e. riposte at lvl 25 you start with 25 skill already but putting additional 25 points into it will surely benefit your overall fighting performance.

But these are just the 2cp of a retired Rogue - there are sure warriors enough out there who shared this problem ;)

Well, if you are asking if it is good to save training points, yes it is. During the early levels, I put 1 point in each skill I wanted, or thought I would want. When you are low level, you can let those skills climb on their own, and you should switch from 1 to 2 hand, etc to keep them up.

I am a caster, so I saved for my specializations. I also made sure that I cast enough of each spell to get my skills up on a somewhat even level, though divination is hard to build for a cleric.

As for your 50 training point level...I do not think there is a cap on training points. They go up by 5 so it depends on what you had when you stopped as to whether the number id odd or even. If you had 3 left, then increase by 5 for each level since. You will see that you get odd-even-odd-even. If you just stopped training when you had 0, then after 10 levels you would have 50 points.

Hope this helps.

One thing to keep in mind, as you level your training points begin to cost PP to use. The higher your level the more they cost. Now at 51 I don't think I could afford to spend all 120 of my training points Smiley: smile

There is no cap on how many training points you can save (to my knowledge).

The cost of a training point is determined by your skill level in a category, not the level of your character.

You'll be the best judge of when and where to spend your points. I read posts about people getting an uber weapon that uses a skill in which they're weak. Off to the trainer they go to spend some of those points they've been hoarding.

Wow! I stand corrected, I suppose you learn something new everyday. At least now I dont feel so bad for saving all of those points.
