I have given up casting my pet.

I know that it isn't a necro pet and I don't expect much from it. I am aware of the "treat it like a dot" advice. But I still can't see what use it is.

I have pet attacks turned on and frequently for an entire fight it will be misses, gets parried, mob dodges etc, etc. As a DoT it is hideously inefficient.

When it does hit it does 5 or 10 damage. The poor thing is something like level 20 and is being asked to tackle level 35+ mobs.

And it gets in my way.

The only real use seems to be to delay the mob for several microseconds if I have to run for it.

Am I missing something?

The pet gets better with each upgrade. The problem with the pets in the mid game is that you go almost 10 levels between upgrades. I stopped using my pet in the 40's till the level 52 pet. With this pet, I get about 7.5dps against blue mobs. That dps amounts to 13% of the total dps I generate.

As far as it getting in the way, use the level 19 spell 'tiny companion' to shrink it.

One of the advantages of using the pet at all levels is that it misses more than we do, making our own 58% hit/miss ratio look just a little better.

A 65 Shadowknight with Pet AA can single pull using his pet in BoT, that says to me that they are fairly useful.

At 65, I have parsed SK pets dealing 10 - 25dps. Yes it's not much, but it adds up in the long run. It's more than 10% of their DPS if used properly.

Also, if you really want to put your pet to good use, drop by the bazaar and buy some of those mage summoned pet weapons. Or just beg a mage to summon them. These noticably boost DSP for pets.

Here is the mage summoned weapon I'm refering to:

Summoned: Blade of the Kedge
MAGIC ITEM NO RENT
Slot: PRIMARY SECONDARY
Skill: 1H Slashing Atk Delay: 20
DMG: 10
Cold DMG: 3
HP: +50
Effect: Wrath of Ice (Combat)
WT: 0.1 Size: SMALL
Class: WAR CLR PAL RNG SHD DRU MNK ROG SHM NEC WIZ MAG ENC BST
Race: NONE

Pet only weapon with a cold proc:
Decrease Hit Points (HP) by 22 (L1) to 150 (L65)

I'm not sure what level your character is, but from what I've seen for a level 65 SK, like tarv mentioned, the pet can be an awesome pulling tool. I don't have an SK, but this what I've seen an SK in my guild do.

First she has the pet's hp buffed as much as possible; also has his run speed buffed. She targets something, sends the pet in and fd's before it gets there. When it whacks the mob she pulls him back to her while still FD and the mob comes along as a single.

As I said, this is purely from what I've seen so take it with a grain of salt; there may be an extra detail missing that makes it all work (pet hold maybe?), but it's worth experimenting with, I would think.

Humm i know this is going sound odd but i thought that the pet is indifferant to all mobs so if your split spawning with the use of snare and fein wouldnt that be help to keep the mob in place with adding your pet???? Before your pet dies to whack on the mobs to bring it to the rest of the group???

I'm not sure if I follow, but if I understand the post above correctly and the question is whether you would snare...no you wouldn't want to attack the mob in any way.

As I understand it, since infact pets are indifferent to all mobs, being FD will make it to where the rest of the mobs wont aggro on the pet, just the one that the pet strikes. But hey, I don't even play a pet class, much less an SK, but I have seen this done and apparently so has tarv.

Sounds remarkabley like Celeni's bear cub.

However, I recently did a few LDoN's with a Shadowknight who used his pet to pull with.

It worked extremely well and seemed like an excellent tactic to me.

It seems now some people are trying to say that it is an exploit. Something I completely disagree with, it seems a perfectly legitimate use of a pet to me.

Note.. the SK I was with was in his low 40's maybe even only 40, so I do not think the tactic is level dependant.
