I'm pretty new to the game, my main is a lvl 31 druid. I'm wondering what is the benefit of joining guilds? I had one guy offer me to join, but he couldn't tell me anything about it except that it was like a family. I'm just curious, what is the benefit. Could someone please explain this to me, I hope this topic is not to dumb :)

Thanks Guvwenea

Some guilds are just a bunch of people hanging out together, helping each other level, sharing items and money and trying to group together whenever possible. These are often referred to as the "family" guilds. At the other end of the spectrum, you have guilds who only allow you to enter if you have a level 65 character with over 30 AA's, or something like that. The sole purpose of these guilds is to raid the super-high-level planes and get the best items in the game. In-between you have guilds that combine these two ideas, ones that are Roleplaying guilds, Vah Shir only guilds, etc.

The guild I joined recently generally doesn't allow characters over level 30 in unless it's a class that we are short on, or is an alt of another character in the guild. The average level of the people who are on the most is in the high 50's, and we do two raids a week. Since I've joined we've raided Chardok, Umbral Plains, and City of Mist, either for epic quests or just general fun and/or raid experience (I had never gone on a raid before joining this guild, for example). Other than that it's just about hanging out with a bunch of people that I know will help me out in a jam, and are also cool people in general.

The easiest thing to do, if you really want to join a guild, is to do some research about it. Maybe they have a website. Or ask your other friends in-game about the guild, see what kind of reputation they have. I would be wary of joining a guild that takes you sight-unseen, you might have some fellow guildmates that you won't like. But you never know, it might work out okay too.

As long as you're having fun, you're playing the game right. If you think it would be more fun to join a guild, then go for it. Personally, since you're a new player, I would suggest that you stay unguilded for a while. You'll probably get more offers, and then you'll have your choice of guilds. If you find that a lot of the people you group with are from the same guild, and you really like playing with them, ask them if you can join. They've already had experience with you too, so they will know if you're a good fit.

Game on,

There are many reasons why guilds are good to be in <even a bad one> they are an extended source of infomation, guild groups tend to be better since people wil be more forgiving of mistakes and you get to know how people play.

Mainly though guild exsist because there are thing that you cannot do unless you have a guild to back you up. Epics for the most part would be impossble as many of the mobs that drop items for epic only drop that and are in zones that otherwise would be deserted, very few players would take the risk of helping a non guilded stranger get an epic piece with no reward for themselves.

Alot of zones end mobs require a raid to take down and often require 4-5 wipes before working out the tactics for doing it with ease and 'Farming' so the you can outfit the people who want items with them. My guild Farms Grieg and is just at the point where they can take Mystro <spelling> in PoHate on a regular basis with no losses, it take 50 people ave raid lvl 61 to do this and the same people need to be there for all the learning process so that lessons are learnt.

I am also Co leader of a small guild on druzzil that is purely for fun and friendship, no raid but lots of guild groups and epic mobs.

i have 1 charicter that i duo with my wife that is not guilded and i do miss the banter with friends in the two guilds that i am in.
