I'd like to get a consensus as to which map program is best for EQ. Like: Which is easiest to download and implement, which has the best maps, which is easiest to use, etc. I don't have enough computer savy to look at codes and such and come up with an independant decision, and I've come to the conclusion that since Muse stopped doing maps for us on EQAtlas I'm going to have to go with the ingame maps.

I guess this might qualify as a poll - definitely would like to know waht the opinion of everyone is.

I don't know which is best, as i have only had 2, and to be quite honest, I dont even remember where I got them. lol. I was simply surfing the EQ sites, and found them. Be careful though. The first one I had caused my main to "disappear" when she zoned into Gulf of Gunthak. I had to petition, finally, and the GM told me it was caused by the maps. Eventually, the GM summoned my toon back to Stonebrunt, and told me to remove the maps, (the whole map folder), and repatch before I logged in again. It was not a fun experience.

Please, dont think Im saying to not get maps. lol, I have others now. Just a friendly warning of what CAN happen.

So, as I read on waiting to see what the two programs he has used are...alas, he did not say! :-)

Well i don't knwo about programms - i just use the ingame programme - more than good enough for me, but the actual maps i downloaded from eq-toolbox.

As for Muse, well his maps still cover 90% if you want paper maps, so yes I still use his site if i want a map by my side - or if i need an overview of how to get somewhere zone by zone over a distance. - You should see the state of my, now, ancient pok map - god i still lose track of what book goes where, and who lives on what floor in the library.

There would be a few zillion more lost toons out there were it not for that guy/(gal?).

Check out eqtoolbox.com if you're talking about maps to download to the in-game map feature. They're very easy to use and download quickly.

There's a tool called Mappie that can be used to open up Cartography maps for viewing outside of game. Can mess around with them, too. Optimizing them by smoothing fragmented lines out, etc.

Thanks for the info. I was worried that some of the downloadable programs might cause promblems - like losing characters. I tend to be very cautious when downloading stuff - have had to reformat too many times in past years.

I totally agree about EQAtlas maps - dont think I would have stayed in the game if not for them - at least I doubt if I would have ever found my way out of Rivervale with my first toon - but I'm getting to where I have to go to zones that he has no maps for and, to be honest, his maps have spoiled me.

It seems like EQ-Toolbox might be the best bet.
