I posted this question in the ranger forum but no one seems to go there. I just started a Half-Elf Ranger instead of a Wood Elf. I'm just curious as to the benefits and drawbacks of either class as a Ranger.

well, imho, half-elves do not seem to level as quickly. also, there seems to be a wisdom hit. however, you will have higher stamina and dexterity which enables better hits with the bow as you grow. with more stamina comes more health (HP). it is up to you what you decide to play race wise. maybe if you are able, make a wood elf ranger and a half elf ranger and test out both to see which you prefer.

edit: as a half-elf, you can wear everyone else's cultural armor as long as there is no diety restriction. you can wear any elf and human armor. very cool.

Read this! I picked Human for the extra starting STR and STA. Also Humans also have better Wis than Half elves. 2 drawbacks to humans no night vision and low dex. The lack of night Vision has not really hurt me. At level 30ish you get a infravision spell anyway. And I figure by the time Dex becomes important I will be able to compensate with gear. I think ranger is one class that the race makes no lasting difference whatsoever. Only problem I have with Wood elf's is that they have 105 AGI. Since AGI is basically a useless stat, these are like wasted points in my mind. Same goes for Half elves 100 AGI. The low wisdom will hurt you as a half elf, later in life you will not be concentrating at all on wis, so it is nice to get it up front. If I was to re-roll I would pick human again. If this is your first toon, I would recommend Human. The other thing is humans look more dangerous than Wood elves. One small problem is I find the queynos hills newbie area to be quite lacking. SO go somewhere more interesting. Everfrost or East commonlands are lots of fun.

I have not suffered for chosing half elf except in one department and that is mana pool in the first 30 or so levels. This can be rectified with your choice of equipment. Equipment can cure all starting ills apart from night vision. That may be something to think about.

In the later stages of this silly game starting stats do not matter at all.

Also, the half elf graphics look nice. My ranger all in black looks quite fetching Smiley: smile

Wood elf ranger kicks the half elf dragonspawn in the ding dong. Of course, then he haxx0rs my account and does nasty things, but you get the idea. :)
