I am not real excited about EQ2. I hate the oven mit guauntlets and the lead with your crotch battle poses, but I think there are a few other things I'm worried about with this game. Wanted to hear others opinions.

I'm on the fence. I have been following WoW for awhile and it looks so much better. I think if they get it out before EQ2 is released alot of people won't make the move to EQ2. I have a 65 druid on EQ1 and the fact that I can't transfer him over to EQ2 is a major deterring factor. I shudder at the thought of having to start from scratch. Plus the first few months of EQ2 is going to be a rat race. I'm going to have the wait and see attitude. If people are complaining about EQ2 as much as they do SWG and EQ1 I will not be taking the leap.

1. Unlinked banks just turn me off.

2. Don't feel like starting over.

3. Just getting in to the uber stage of EQ 1, there's a lot for me to see still. Maybe if I get bored one day way down the road.

4. As of now, I don't think I can meet the reccomended requirments for EQ 2. Until I find out what they are, and can beat them at least a lil, I won't do it. If I can't run a game well, I don't run it.

5. None of the game play features really peak my interest. Houses, neat but not a closer. Class system interesting, but I'll go warrior start to finish so the variety is wasted on me.

6. A lot of my friends in EQ 1 aren't going over as of now. Perhaps if they all fled to EQ 2 in mass, I might go. But as long as some of them stay behind, I most likely will.

In my opinion it's way to soon to decide. Browsing the Webpages of EQ2, Horizons (will not shine before the first expansion) and WoW there's not enough information to think about preordering.

As above stated it will depend a bit upon the release dates.

when they have a game that has enough problems as it is, and they made enough customers mad. Regardless of good eq 2 will be, i would not get it just because I am boycotting anything from SOE. I will not give them another dollar of my money.

Well, lets see...

1) I still enjoy EQ1.

2) I will not pay for 2 game subscriptions.

3) I do not want to start over as a noob!

4) I am not impressed with the graphics I have seen posted on the websites.

5) Unlinked banks.

6) The chance to lose EVERYTHING if you should decide to move your items from one bank to another.

7) SOE cannot make a decent expansion, do I REALLY doubt they can make a good game.

8) $40 (maybe more) for a game based on (read almost exactly like) one that I already own? I dont think so!

9) When have you EVER seen the sequel be better than the first?

10) When have you EVER seen the sequel be AS GOOD as the first? (lol)

hmmm.... many more, im sure, but I think you get the point... Smiley: cool

Terminator II and Indiana Jones III come to mind (off-topic) ;-)

...but on-topic I understand that most people would appreciate a better expansion over a worse game.

I just started Eq about a month ago and have loved it since and yes i am a newb. I so far have many characters just trying to see what i like, so far my favorites are my lv 26 druid, 26 ranger, and 34 shaman. I plan to have my shanam rather high by eq2 release and i will be playing eq2 soon after its out, it just sounds to me like you guys have a big head from being the big boys on the block to long. When eq2 comes out the playing field will be level, so will you come to my court?

P.S. We are all newbs at some point, if you have ever played SWG during the holo rage you destroyed your char many times as i did. I have no problem killing a char i have spent months on, its just a game.

I won't be getting EQ2 right off.

1. My system probably can't handle it. Don't forsee an upgrade for at least a year.

2. Still enjoying EQ1.

I'm in the same boat as Mixlplk. I have a lot of faith in Blizzard, and they deserve a chance. Moreover, Sony has had enough chances. Their customer service policies and staffing have been lower than I'll accept for a subscription game.

I'm sure Sony is only doing what they think makes business sense, but by losing a few thousand subscribers to the next generation games, I hope they wake up to the fact that people have only tolerated their policies and service because of our attachment to the community and our time investment in our characters. I will not be quitting EQ for these reasons, but when I make the switch, it will be to a non-sony platform.

I concur with most of the above.

If SOE force me out of eq1 I will move to a different supplier though I may just give up on the whole gendre. I could not go back to playing a poor lowbie for the next 6 months.

I have spent 3 years playing eq1. I've visited 1/4 of the zones and have one 250pt jewelcrafter (not much good now tradeskills are useless). My maximum level character is only 52nd with 2aas. There is still a huge depth of eq1 still untapped for me.

As this comes up quite often in the worst case EQ2 could become the latest "Newbie Server" as a whole.

Although I don't understand the attitude of veteran players who claim that its ok to invest LOTS of time and effort to get a TS to 250 but find it boring spending a weekend working a character up REALLY from the start.

Add Aliens.

Don't know if I'll play or not. Let it get to Beta (heh) before I even start worrying about it.

I've been gawking at EQ2 ever since they first released the page dedicated to it. I admit, there are some odd quirks that they seem to be throwing our way, like the non-linked banks. Although that would, in theory, give us more space, no? And the durability of equipment, although not new to the RPG genre, I'm not too fond of already. I guess I'll just see how it goes.

But definitely the character progression, the graphical splendor, and most everything else just blows me away. Yes, my computer is rearing to go, ready for the sequel. And for those who complained about paying for 2 games, there's a superpass that's only about double the regular subscription rate (if that) that encompases like 6 games, including EQ2. I'm not about to give up EQ1 just as I'm entering the uber arena, but I'm not going to miss out on the splendor that is EQ2 either. But I will wait a short while before picking it up.

SOE cannot even fix EQ1 (which I am attached to so staying anyway), why should I give them more money for a new game they probably won't support any better than the old one.

Ever since one of the patches, while I have LDON, I haven't been able to play it because of LD issues. I cannot alway log back on after going LD and that is not fair to the group, who cannot get a replacement.

EQ locks my computer up more than any other program. Sometimes I can stay on for days in bazaar and game. Some days I cannot get on at all, keep getting that stupid reload patch message.

I have swapped out most of my components with a similar no-problem, no EQ, computer in the house with no improvement in EQ. I am getting a new computer shortly and hope some of these issues go away, since I seem to have infrequent lock up issues besides EQ. If they don't I may have to give up EQ entirely.

The computer they require to run EQ2 will be more advanced than the one I have now, and I don't trust them to handle more complex technology, when they have proved they can't handle the current level. Just look at the tech problem boards, and that is people helping people. Not SOE backing up their product.

Kelti, what I'm hearing from a computer tech standpoint, and from the info you've provided (I may need more from a hands on perspective) you have a problem with heat, possibly from your video card and CPU. I know that when I upgraded my friend's video so she could play Luclin, her case was so air-unfriendly that every time she'd load up EQ, the video card would make her modem hangup because the case got so damn hot. Needless to say, she still can't play Luclin until she buys a new tower case (I bought the video card, what a shame). Even my high-end computer has signs of being on the verge of a heat crisis when I'm in LDoN zones and PoK/Bazaar. It's because the newer zones are graphics-intensive and that means more work for the video card. And ever since PoP, EQ has gotten harder on the CPU too, making that all the more heat-generating. I was fortunate enough to look ahead and prepare for any excess heat and got me a case with plenty of room for cabling, and 5 case fans to blow all that heat out. I don't have problems with LDs or lockups because I take care of my hardware, and I know what works.

Wow, Drailog, that is one I haven't thought of. I have the standard fans working and it would have never occured to me to need more. Will do some checking on that on. I thank you for answering, because I wasn't really asking a question, just compaining.

I do other intense graphic work in Photoshop, but EQ would be even more than that (she says as she slaps a window air conditioner in the side of her pc). Will let you know.

Guess what, No UNLINKED banks as it stands now. The outcry caused them to change there minds.

Hang around EQ2lounge, learn a bit more, reserve judgement.

Off the subject a little (but to help the one poster with a potential heat problem).... Take a look at an expansion slot fan (http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=221631). Both Antec and Startech make one, I have the Startech, and it does a pretty acceptable job of exhausting the heat. They're pretty cheap at around $20. Just don't put the fan right on the video card, for the electomagnetic interferance can cause some interesting results. Another very simple way to test for heat problems is simply to remove the door. I've even seen people cut a hole in the side panel with a Dremel and then install a 120mm fan.

Thanks, Valzarius, I have tried a lot of things, not sure it is heat, but under $20 is a worthwhile try. Have played with open case since we were swapping parts, but it could still be heat if it't tight enough.

same reason i have not bought SWG, nor will i any time soon.

i refuse to pay for a game that is still in beta format.

SWG is over a year old and still not fully as advertised.

I won't for two reasons.

I don't care to upgrade my computer, but mostly that's a secondary reason.

I'm done with EQ, and online gaming, most likely, when Jacinthe hits 65.

I'll have accomplished my "goals" and will have, in my humble opinion, won the game. I'm too busy now to invest time in a new game.

That's about it.

How are trade skills in World of Warcraft different from those in other MMORPGs?

A great deal of effort has been made to make every item that is crafted useful so that players are not just creating items to increase their skills. Also, many of the raw materials needed will be found in dangerous locations throughout the world. Players are encouraged to adventure in order to gain ingredients - rather than just farm a distant, nondescript patch of land endlessly.

Recipes will work every time. If you collect the proper ingredients to create an item, you don't have to worry about them being wasted due to failures. There's also no need to constantly experiment in World of Warcraft to find a combination of ingredients that will work. A recipe clearly lists what it will allow you to create and what raw materials are required. There's no guesswork (or surfing through dozens of Web sites) involved…
