History

Over a thousand years ago the powerful Gurubashi Empire was torn apart by a massive civil war. An influential group of troll priests, known as the Atal'ai, called forth the avatar of an ancient and terrible blood god named Hakkar the Soulflayer. Though the priests were defeated and ultimately exiled, the great troll empire collapsed upon itself. The exiled priests fled far to the north, into the Swamp of Sorrows, where they erected a great temple to Hakkar in order to prepare for his arrival into the physical world.

In time, the Atal'ai priests discovered that Hakkar's physical form could only be summoned within the ancient capital of the Gurubashi Empire, Zul'Gurub. Unfortunately, the priests have met with recent success in their quest to call forth Hakkar -- reports confirm the presence of the dreaded Soulflayer in the heart of the Gurubashi ruins.

In order to quell the blood god, the trolls of the land banded together and sent a contingent of High Priests into the ancient city. Each priest was a powerful champion of the Primal Gods -- Bat, Panther, Tiger, Spider, and Snake -- but despite their best efforts, they fell under the sway of Hakkar. Now the champions and their Primal God aspects feed the awesome power of the Soulflayer. Any adventurers brave enough to venture into the foreboding ruins must overcome the High Priests if they are to have any hope of confronting the mighty blood god.

Boss Information

Hakkar and his Aspects

The Priest Aspects all assume an animal form at some point when being fought. In addition, if they are left alive prior to engaging Hakkar, he will gain their abilities in addition to his own, making him much harder to kill.

Aspects

Optional Bosses

The following bosses are optional and are not required to kill to prevent abilites from being transferred to Hakkar. In addition, even bypassing them altogether will not change the final boss encounter.

Faction Perks

Gaining rep with the Zandalar Tribe offers several benefits.

Armor sets

Class-based armor sets completed at certain levels of reputation, requiring Primal Hakkari drops.

Crafting recipes

Recipes can be purchased from Rin'wosho the Trader. He is found on Yojamba Isle in Stranglethorn Vale. All of his recipes are BoP, while all items crafted from them are BoE.

Enchants

Zul'Gurub offers unique enchants for the head, leg and shoulder slots. For creating these enchants you need to be Friendly (head and leg) or Exalted (shoulder) with the Zandalar Tribe.

Necklaces

Reaching friendly reputation will allow p[layers to acquire a neck slot item, called the Maelstrom's Tendril, from Falthir the Sightless. This can be upgraded as your reputation improves.

You can do ZG solo at higher levels, but to enter, you still have to be part of a raid set-up. You can't just walk in alone. (Group with anyone else and convert it to a raid and solo ZG to your heart's content, or your personal ability ;-)

Just did a run with a 10 man gorup of lvl 62-70. Had a rogue tank for most of the bosses...go go evasion tanking...lol. Was fun, wasnt much we couldnt handle and some of the lower lvls even got couple of interesting peices. We called it for the day at the Tiger boss...just couldnt get them to die at the same time...planning on trying again maybe tommorw.

We were just 10 manning it easily with a couple lvl 60s... I'm positive it wouldn't be a problem. As long as you have 5 70s, the place is a breeze.

The nice thing about ZG is that you have options for different paths through the instance rather than the linear progression of most instances. So you can select a set of bosses to do based upon experience, time available, and group composition.

There are plenty of talented players who look down on the rest of us. It is a rare talent when a good player is able to teach people to be better. If you find that kind of player, join their guild!

i happen to be in a raidgroup of experienced players that has cleared zul'gurub a few times now. in my opinion, equipment does not count as much as focus in this particular instance. i have raided zg with a different group made up almost entirely of t1/t2 equipped chars (in comparison to my current group that is made up of a few t1/t2's and some twinks with quest/craft/aq20/zg equip) and i took us nearly 5 hours to complete the instance WITHOUT jin'do - pretty gruesome - my current group needs around 3,5 to 4 hours to do the whole instance with jin'do and a 20 minute break. a leader that knows the instance by heart does help a lot.

OMG what an answer...
A run to ZG takes 2-3 hours, when you are experienced. In the beginning you won't make the whole instance anyway.
But each run about 3 hours will give you good progress with every week.
And it shouldn't take much more than 4 to 5 weeks until you make first try for hakkar.

There is much to consider before saying what length a ZG run is.

How well geared is the raid? Obviously having everyone in blues will take a long time, a tank in BWL gear leading the raid won't get you as far as you'd think it would since there are often more than one thing to tank (Bloodlord, Tiger and Panther bosses). Molten Core gear helps a lot, but it's harder to get.

How skilled is everyone? Do they pick up adds to tank and spot heal on their own, do they decurse when told to or are they still focused on DPS meters and competing?

How long can you keep 20 raiders focused? There are many different bosses there. I'd say judge a good time to get to each boss by seeing the time it takes to get to venoxis and multiply that by about 125%-150% for each of the other bosses.

Just curious if the Beastiary,Items,Quests for Zul'gurub will be tied together soon? It makes it alot easier to look up the items and tempt people to go with the tails of possible loot.

Oh, and glad to see you're still around Alla. Been coming here since the early days of EQ. Hope your family is doing well.
