Objectives

You must get Onyxia to breathe fire on the Unfired Ancient Blade. Once this is done, pick up the now Heated Ancient Blade. Be warned, a Heated Ancient Blade will not remain heated forever - time is of the essence.

The last step before returning to me is to slay the beast and drive the Heated Ancient Blade into her corpse.

Do this and Quel'Serrar will be yours.

Treated Ancient Blade

Description

Take the unfired ancient blade to the lair of Onyxia and engage her in battle.

Some trickery must be utilized for the heating of the blade. While in combat, she will surely try to incinerate you with her fiery breath. You must plant the unfired ancient blade nearby and hope that the fiery breath heats the blade. If you live beyond this, pick up the now heated ancient blade and finish off the dragon.

Plunge the heated ancient blade into her smoldering corpse to fashion the treated ancient blade.

Progress

Perhaps one day, another will wield the prismatic blade.

Completion

Got Mine A While Ago,
My friend sent it in the mail to me since he was quiting WoW, i wasn't one to reject. My friend took me to DM Library. Started the quest and right clicked the blade to test it, it just stuck in the ground. Abandondoned quest (Accepted Again After) and HS to SW. Pressed /who Onyxia's . 3rd best guild on the sever was in so i asked and got an inv. Dropped the blade at 15% , nuked like hell and she died. Stabbed sword into her and done. Returned to DM and took crus mats with me, Enchanted it when i recieved it. It's been at my side for 2 months now . Looks good and gets a lot of compliments. No complaints at all , waiting for a better wep to appear and still havnt found one. Good Luck all who want this. Happy New Year Too ^^

I got the book last night and was told by Knights of Aszunes MT thatwhen onyxia is at 10% health you should put the sword right by the MT, and when she dies you take the sword out of the ground and place it in onyxia. Then u take it back to the atheneun and he gives u sword. (note: when u put the sword in the ground you have 25min to stick it in onyxia so wait till the end of fight where you no you will have enough time.)

Ok, i read this post and I cannot find out how to actually do this quest. When fighting, do I right click on the sword to "Breathe fire" on the blade? Then what do you do, click it again?
Please, any help, thank you

you right click to drop it (should be infront of onyxia) then she breathes on it, and then you take it sometime later and dry it off in her blood? I haven't done this, but thats what I have pieced together through all my research and waiting =(, hope this helps

I admit, it is a better sword for warriors than pallys. There are other weapons out there that better enhance our survival abilities. For instance, anything that increases our intel or the amount we heal. And like it or not, 90% of the time our function in a group is to heal. They need it. We just want it. If you take this out of a warrior's hands because you are greedy and not thinking of long term strategems, I can do nothing but shake my head at you. (Edited, thanks DraknReznall)

you're not drying it off, you're using it's extreme heat from being cast in fire, to burn her blood causing the blood to harder, forming a hardened outer blade.

I got this quest in a pug with a friend of mine from Kings Ex.Ive been farming with him a couple of times now.We run a 12 min dash threw dire west and then start again.This drops for me less then 10 mins into the run.I didnt even know what i had got.The book sells for 800-2000 Gold on Bleeding Hollow.I as MT for Burn Boys did deside that my Epic mount could wait and that i would not sell the book.Ive done some reading on this quest and cant wait to get to Onyxia.I for one will not buy my way into a great guild run as some others have done.I myself as guild master of Burn Boys would rather think my Exp speaks for itself.If i cant get asked into a group for a run then i will just wait for my own guild to get built up anough for this quest to be finished.Either way im looking so forward to the reward at the end of this quest.Looks like its going to be a hell of a ride.Congratz to all of you that hold this fine PIECE.I cant wait to join your group.

Y ok i have read all that alot...
i buy mine for 2.300g @ Silvermoon Alliance!
i was farming alot for it but he never drops for me:( and belive me i have farm alot... since i have 96d played time... and 2 alt's... anyway.
i have talk and all ok with Ony Raid's to help me get the Quel, tonight my Guild Kill Ony and i was there... anyway was the 2nd day trying her..and we Kill her :) i didn't place the "Unfired Ancient Blade" cos i died and no1 can res me anyway...!
i use accidently the "Unfired Ancient Blade" inside BRD lol .
My Question is i can take new1 right? just Ubandon the quest and take it again from Lydros ?
Cos i have heard the old time (b4 some paches) that u can't take the Quest Again... u must find the Book again O.o
Today Server goes down for maintence and couldn't go to DM to ckeck.
If any1 knows something and is Sure about it is welcome ;)

Anyway is Working , Abandon the quest and take it again.
The strage now is when i get it i also get ofc the [Unfired Ancient Blade]. And [A Dull and Flat Elven Blade] ... and i don't meet the requirements for that quest....(when i'm trying to use the [A Dull and Flat Elven Blade]... anyway i have read that is a bug... and u must destroy it but i'll keep it to be sure. cya

Finally got this book after 5 months of Dire Maul farming, and not even from Dire Maul. A guildie got it COD'd to him for a reasonable price and I managed to dig up enough gold for it :-P

Kinda sick of doing Dire Maul anyway, since the 1.8 patch there has been no music :-(

One of the posters hit it on the head. This sword may have others that best it in DPS - i dunno cause I dont have every item in game memorized ... However the point is the getting - the fighting - the questing - the raiding - the people that worked on it all with you to make it possible. I think that what happened was Blizz either fired the guy that wrote this quest line or allowed him to quit before they did any of the other higher level quests - This truely was a fine adventure with a reward that matched it and many fine memories of friends helpin all over the world - Thanks Esp ti Pistachio - 60 Druid - Malygos :D

Soo.... Lucky to get the quest, and heading to beat up Onyxia...

What happens if you fail the heating process? - Such as wiping when you have put down the blade, or failing to kill her within the time limit?

Yes... I will put down the sword at 10% onyxia health, but heard its fairly easy to wipe even then...

i got mine while helping a guildies do his lvl 60 Mages water quest we went in to kill Hydrospawn and well Hydro was feeling a little generous that night , now my only problem is i have to kill ony :( anyone on Icecrown how gona do her and need a 60 warrior give me a shout :)

Last night in Dire Maul: West this dropped for me off of the Hunter named. Odd...I only went in last night to get the Timeworn Mace (which I got as well).

First time in Onyxia's Lair was just before this, and I'm MT...So I have a lot to work on I assume!

I'm MT for my guild aswell, currently im farming DM as much as i can just to get the book, not sure if it drops from all the guards in north, thott and allakhazam tells me different things.. anyways

from what ive read, you put it infront of her as she breaths fire on it, and then kill her, pick the sword up, and then thrust it in her...
can all this be done while you are tanking onyxia?
i mean, you need to keep aggro, but you can probably stop attacking for a couple of sec, but wont it get interrupted or something?

there is no MT in phase 2 so yea it can be done she jus flies around random target fireballs and if not enough dps held on her she does deep breath

a epic book dropped of captain kromcrush yesterday :) i got the unforged blade... i hope i have more than one try with this item... this quest is really hard �� but its really funny that we killed onyxia 2 days ago and yesterday the book dropped :/ :/

-> u have to lay it down on the floor in onyxias lair .. then she must do a deep breath (2000-3000 damage to nearby chars, instant death for the unlucky one she focusses) and then kill onyxia really fast! then u have to cool it down in the blood of the slayn dragon... hell of a quest!

info totally false.

her regular breath is fine. i laid the blade down when onxyia was at 9% health. we killed her, then u click on heated blade and it plungs into her with a nice graphic. then u have the heated, and blood tempered blade. simply take it back to library at dire maul and look for the big yellow question mark and claim ur reward.

You now own the single most reveered and desired one hand sword in game. It is only surpassed by a few new swords in dps, but you have none with the backstory and desire like this one. One of the books for quest to get this sucker has sold for as much as 3500!!!

I found mine one day and had the Quel by that night as my guild decided to kill her since our timer was up and their MT had this book/quest. Im not sure if the whole "hurry" part of the legend is true but i didnt want to test it out and after killing Onxyia I stoned to IF then flew to menthil, took boat to theramore, then on to ferales and a quick ride on my epic mount to get to library. Yuo can sneak to library btw. gotta be the single greatest quest reward in this whole game.

and did i say it looks completely BADASS?!

onyxia does NOT have to do a deep breath. just lay it in front of onyxia during stage 3 when you know you won't wipe and as long as onyxia does one normal fire breath towards it (near MT hoepfully) it will work.

I bought this book on Kargath for 440 Gold. I think i'm the only one on the server to get it this quest :). Only need to kill Onyxia :) and a nice 52.5 DPS 1H sword will be mine.

You get an epic book drop off of Guard Mol'Dar in Dire Maul.

Turn the book into Atheneus where you get this quest. I got it today on Mal'Ganis.
