20 pieces of Alterac Swiss. Get thee to a cheesery!

I went to Gadgetzan at 31 not realizing the level requirement to obtain the quest. I went back to Orgrimmar and went to the cooking trainer area in case she had any recipes I didn't have yet. She trained me to 300-Artisan. I guess the quest is no longer necessary and Alla needs to update the trainer list.

You can find a lot of the rocs at around 45, 45 (south/southwest of Gadgetzan) in Tanaris. There are two areas with large bones that the rocs and hyenas surround. I would say the drop rate was more around 30% than 50%, but w/e.

The cheese is at Freewind at the innkeeper, and I got the ten clam meats at the AH for around 1g.

Yes, have your cooking ability up to 225 before even looking for this quest...

12 Giant Eggs: Get those from Rocs (buzzards) all over Tanaris. Got mine after killing 24, even 50% drop rate. Or you can choose to go to the Hinterlands and hunt the owlbeasts there.

10 Pieces of Zesty Clam Meat: Can either buy from your local AH, or go hunt for some. Believe the turtles off Tanaris coast might drop some. If not them, go to the northern tip of the Isle of Dread in Ferelas and kill the naga there. They'll drop clams that'll give you the zesty clam meat you need.

20 Pieces of Alterac Swiss: Go to the innkeeper at Freewind Post in Thousand Needles. This is the easy, and close, place for Horde to purchase it. For Alliance, it's available practically everywhere...

All I read is about people sulking over having a hard time at 35 to complete this quest. Here's a thought that crossed my mind, you don't actually have to be the minimum level to complete a quest. It's hard concept to follow, but it works perfect for a speed leveler like myself (green quests = red quests in xp, green quests < red quests to complete in time).

For some help nonetheless

SPEED LEVELERS
Through your adventures you should be banking ALL of your food items that you get, no matter what they are. Turn in any quests that require food (like westfall stew and such) when needed, but any extra bank. When you reach around level 45 you should be tracking most of your hinterlands quests, at which point add "Owlbeasts" to your killing spree...see one, kill it. By the time you have finished hinterlands, you will have all your eggs, and somehow I ALWAYS seem to have 30 zesty clam meat (Giants around feathermoon doing the zap quest drop them, along with many other quest killables). Just buy your cheese, grab all your food, buy up some recipes and go for the win on passing your 225 skill.

PERFECTIONISTS
You are the type that needs to be at 100% with EVERYTHING you do AS you play. To get this quest done at 35 without help, you should have 2 professions supplying you money...go buy the materials needed from the auction house. Yes, you can fight 1 mob at a time, waste valuable time trying to kill things that are way too powerful for you, but you are only giving yourself tunnel vision. Just buy what you need, and later on when you come across those items, you can resell them on the auction house for the next perfectionist, it's called paying forward.

TWINK
You already have a high level character supplying you money to buy those blue and purple items, and now you need to level your cooking to get that +XX stam/spirit boost item for BGs. Either purchase the items required in the auction house like a perfectionist, or use your main to scrounge it up.

If anyone noticed, I think I was the only one to state that Zesty Clam Meat came from the giants around Feathermoon. The goblin at the docks gives you a zapping quest which is repeatable, kill 2 birds with 1 stone (3 birds if you do the water elemental quest with it).

OK, from Gadget head on down the road to Steamwheedle Port and kill turtles on the beach and in the water for large clams. The drop rate is so-so, took me about 20mins to gather the clam meats.

Buy your cheese from the Inn keeper at Hammerfall VIllage in Arathi highlands.

Then go kill some owlbeasts in the Hinterlands for giant eggs. Pick up the quests from Raventusk village in the Hinterlands to kill savage Owlbeasts and Silvermane wolves and kill 2 birds with one stone.

Depending on class/level/gear I'd say this is soloable around the 42-45 area.

Good luck!

There is no need to go all over Azeroth to complete this quest. Buy your cheese from the Trias Cheese shop in Stormwind, or collect it from the Syndicate in Hillsbrad. It can also be bought from Galgrom, the provisioner in the Caverns of Time.

The eggs and clam meat can all be collected in Tanaris.

The lowest level Rocs are 41 so it will be easier to kill them as part of a group, you could collect them as you were completing other quests in the area.

The Steeljaw snappers close to Steamwheedle Port drop the clams, these are lvl42 - 43, so again you would need to kill them as part of a group if you are only level 35.

If it wasn't the way to advance cooking above the temporary 225 training ceiling, the turtles and rocs would be a lot less hunted than they are at the moment!

There are several alternative types of food which give the +12 stam and spi buffs.

Hey good lookin, what you got cookin? Happy hunting, and Bon appetit.

Easy as a level 60. I made a comment in trade about cooking being an easy skill to level up, and someone said "lol wel if u think it so ez then u do the artsitan cookin qst". So I did. Long story short, I went from 70 Cooking to 300 after working on it and fishing for about six or seven hours straight.

Anyway, bought the cheese from Freewind Post, the Innkeeper there sells it for 36s for 5. Farmed clams off of the turtles in Hinterlands, about one in three dropped one. Then farmed the Owlbeasts, also in Hinterlands, for the eggs. About one in four dropped there.

Of course, if you're picking up this quest at 35, that isn't possible for you to do without help. The turtles are 49-51 and the owlbeasts 42-45.

You do not need to travel to foreign and exotic places and kill or die at the hands of exotic monsters. Everything you need is in Tenaris.

12 Giant Eggs
Loc.: Abyssal Sands (48,47) look for all of the large weatherbeaten dino remains.
Dropped by: Fire Rocs; These birds drop at a rate of 1 egg per 5 or 6 kills.

10 Zesty Clams
Loc.: Steamweedle Port and Wavestrider Beach.
Dropped by: Steel Jaw Snapper and Yellow Snapper turtles; once again the drop rate is at about 1 clam per 5 or 6 kills (remember to shuck the clam since they do not stack in their shells and will quickly fill your bag slots).

20 Alterac Swiss Cheese
Loc.: Caverns of Time (64,58)
Vendor: Galgrom (Provisoner)

Save yourself time and flight money and stay in Tenaris to do this quest.

However regarding finding the Cheese at Caverns of Time at cords 64,58 I struck out. When I waltz into the Caverns of Times the first thing I saw was a couple of level 50 elite monsters (Horde) flying around. I never did find Galgrom and the the cords 64,58 put me at an empty spot on the beach.

I realize that by saying what I am going to say.. many of you are gonna trash me and tell me Im a worthless player cause I had a hard time at this quest...

Here are the facts!
I just turned level 40 hunter. My pet is still a level 39 which means he doesnt have growl 6 yet. I am sure growl 6 would help since my cat cant keep the aggro off me. Hinterlands is not a place I should be. Everything here is lvl 42 and up. Yes there are owlbeast and yes they drop eggs.. but nothing close to what has been stated here. I need 12 eggs and after killing around 50 or so I gave up trying at 10 eggs. There are wolves EVERYWHERE which range from 42 to 45. At 40, a lvl 45 is red and HARD as heck. It is VERY hard not to get aggro from either the trolls, wolves, gryphons, etc etc...

I am not sure how all of you did this quest solo at level 35-40 but I would like to see it to believe it. Since I have been there and seen what is in store.. I am more confident to believe that some post here may have exagerated their abilities.

This is just to let those that are wanting to do this quest at level 35-40 to stay away from the hinterlands unless you have a friend that wouldnt mind helping you out.

Hopes this saves a few of you some trouble and pains in the lower extremities

Tenaris would be more friendly to your level. I did go look for the eggs in the AH and quickly left.....not worth 20 gold to save yourself a little aggravation. Ummm....hate to tell you this, but growl starts at about level 10, and doesn't cost you any of your pet's talent points. As your pet goes up levels, he can go up growl levels as well. Growl holds aggro and keeps the mob with the pet and away from you so you, as a hunter, can shoot. If you don't have growl then you're having a far more difficult time as a hunter as your pet isn't functioning the way it should. The solution is to get growl from the pet trainer in Orgrimmar or wherever and train up your pet. And make sure your pet doesn't have cower, which lessens your pet's aggro. That should handle it (but where on earth did you get the idea you can't get growl until your pet is level 40? that's so bizarre).

Well, how about you try the Rocs in Tanaris as the quest states?
Here, look -> http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/mob.html?wmob=5428&locale=enUS;source=live
Now dont tell me lvl 43-37 will be hard to kill for a lvl 40 with a pet.

.. I definitely recommend the owlbeasts in Hinterlands. The biggest advantage is that the wolves, the other mob in that area, drop Tender Wolf Meat, the recipe (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=18046) for which can be bought either from the questgiver or the Alliance inkeeper in Hinterlands - they can then be cooked when you hand the mats in to push you over 225.

I bought the clams from the AH at about 15s, and the eggs which were a little bit more expensive. Then i bought the cheese from the innkeeper at TB. Went to org to talk to the cook there, got the quest, then went to gadgetzan to get this quest Since i had everything on me i completed it.

Since i read about the 225 glitch, i brought a stack of turtle meat and soothing spices so i could make some turtle bisque....leveling my cooking past 225 so it wouldn't reset on me.

As a horde:

I went to Arathi, the innkeeper sells cheese. I then went to Hinterlands, killed turtles for the clam meat, owlbeasts for the eggs.

Wrong continent, I know, but I wanted to camp out in Kargath for raids tonight.. I'll turn it all in tomorrow :)
