Objectives

Kill Mug'Thol, and return his head with the Crown of Will to Melisara in Tarren Mill.

Description

With Mug'Thol's lieutenants dead, all that remains is to kill Mug'Thol and retrieve the Crown of Will. I have no doubt he'll be reluctant to part with it. Most likely expecting you, too, given the... departure... of his fellows.

Find Mug'Thol, and deliver his head and the Crown to me. The Crushridge resistance will be at an end.

Progress

Three heads I have, a fourth I need. It will be Mug'Thol's, or it will be yours, <name>. That I promise.

Completion

You have done your duty well, <name>. Mug'Thol's head shall adorn the highest peak of the ruins of Alterac, and the Deathguard will sweep the remnants of the Crushridge into the ground.

Reputation

+62 reputation with Horde
+350 reputation with Undercity
+62 reputation with Darkspear Trolls
+62 reputation with Silvermoon City

Additional Notes

She can be found in the Royal Quaters at 57, 93.

Did this as a 37 ret pally.

Miser was easy. I aggroed him with half health/mana and beat him without using any pots or abilites other than holy light.

Mug'Thor was the problem. He was LVL 43! not 39-40. I still attacked and it took everything i had to outlast him literally. He had 1700 health and i was only hitting for 26-27 damage. I love pally's though, I switched to devotion aura and seal of light for extra heals. then i had to use healing pot, Lay on Hands, divine shield/mageweave bandage, and all the holy lights i could and i just eventually outlasted him. It really took like five minutes.

Anyway, i don't know if sometimes he spawns at a lower lvl but he was 43 and you can't hit him unless ur within 3-4 lvls.
I found him on the 2nd floor

if you know the layout of the main castle for alliance (like theramore barracks) its similar . . .

I had to up one level, around to the main "dining hall" section.

Watch out for the miser, he's lvl 39 elite. And he spawns fast too. He's a caster and does the meteor shower (just run out of the radius). He hits hard for a caster, plus when he gets low on HP he goes beserk and dps's like a rogue.

I killed him on the way in, and took down Mug'Thol and when I was leaving, I ran into miser AGAIN on the first floor, and had to kill him again. 2 warmongers had respawned also.

Mug' Thol is around lvl 40 (i've seen him 39 an 40), pretty straight forward ogre. His main issue is when he bloodlusts, and beserks, cuz then his damage piles up real fast. The other issue is the adds . ..

on adds:

Did this a few times, once solo, and nother times to help guildies. Some ppl say its cake; it depends on his adds. Mug comes with 2 adds (sometimes 4 since warmongers can spawn on the opposite ends of the upper floor main dining hall area and if you're lazy).

You can pull the two adds and only get the two adds, but only if they walk around / do their mini patrol. One time (at ogre camp) the adds just stood there stupidly next to Mug, and so pulling them ment he came along.

notes:

running the gauntlet: unless you're lvl 50+ or twinked out, don't try to ride through the ogres to the castle . . . they'll star you and you go slow . ..

for some reason the game boosts mobs if they are 3 or more, and they pull cool moves out of their 455, because when I fought the ogres 1 v 1 they never interrupted / stunned me (20+ times). But when I had 6 of them, they kept interrupting and stunning, and my pally turned into a poor man's warrior and couldn't even get the flash heal off and died. Yes I was stupid and forgot about bubble . . .

Good thing the graveyard is outside alterac ruins and I jumped off the mtn through the crack in the wall and ran to my corpse.

Just solo'd as a lvl 37 BM Hunter. Just used standard entry practices for that kind of castle. The lvl 39 elite came along at an inconvenient time, but still not that hard to get to. Now the Mug'thol himself is a pretty tough mob. At least for somebody 5 levels lower he was. One shot. One kill

solo'd as a 38 lock, though to say it was easy would be an overstatement, he resisted at least half of what I threw at him for dots... I was lucky enough to have my void keep aggro long enough that I got a few to stick, ended up throwing the rest of my mana on shadowbolts (again half of which stuck) and he went down as I ran out of mana... getting out was much easier, after running down the stairs and getting ambushed/mauled by the 39 elite and two 40s I died and rez'd on the roof which I jumped off.
*edit* just turned in for 6300 xp!! highest xp quest I have received yet absolutely worth every bit of the effort!!

I dont see what the big deal is. I went alone with void had no trouble getting to him eve took the elite oger out on multipule occasions. The only part that was mildly concerning was my DoTs had to be cast several time to get them to stick. This is one of the easiest quests ive done.

I just barely completed this with my 42 Hunter.

Basically, what I did was get in until I started to double pull and then I would kill one and then feign death after my pet died. I didn't want to do it this way but I found it was the only way to get it done. The good part about the castle is there are plenty of midpoints where if you do die you can find a place where you won't pull aggro as soon as you res. I died twice throughout the quest and killed my pet nearly every double pull. All in all, well worth the rep and xp. But frustrating.

It's actually a ton easier than that, with a hunter..

Just send your pet after a mob, and when your pet is about halfway there, use concussive shot and just keep attacking it, when your pet meets it (if it has the highest level growl it can) it should grab aggro by the time the mob gets to you; then you can just back up a bit more and resume shooting it...

Also, it really helps to use hunter's mark.

For me (43 rogue) this guy was much easier than Targ, the hardest of the 3 ogres from the previous quest... he had 4-5k HP vs Targ's almost 8k. Targ required prep + evasion x2, potion and blind+bandage (ok, maybe a bit of an overkill there, but he killed me twice before I got prep, so I wanted to be sure), this guy only needed evasion... go figure.

Solo'd this with a 46 Rogue. Stealthed inside to the far corner of the room, used Superior Defense potions, +25 Agility and +25 Strength potion and poisoned weapons. Started fight with Ambush then Evasion, Two Sinister Strikes, Gouge, Backstab and then Eviscerate. I hit Prepardness, Evasion again and repeated the above. I finally used Bloodlust and another talent that enhances melee and 15% dodge rate. I had to use a superior healing potion once during the battle. Scored 1080XP for the battle, snatched the loot and stealthed out.

I tried it at level 44 and got rocked...probably due to not thinking out a strategy.

Peace,

Just did this solo as lv 43 Druid. Simply walked past all the ogres in stealth cat form right up to the room with Mug'Thol. Then turned to bear form in the doorway and killed the two guards, shifting form to use healing touch when needed. Killed Mug'Thol in bear form but had to keep shifting form a lot to heal myself (about 5 times). Left using stealth cat form again.

Good job. This is not an easy solo.

To get to this guy, go in the front of the ruins, turn left, and clear your way to the castle at the end. There are patrols that go near the castle gate, so clear them. You don't want adds.

The castle is packed with level 39 and 40 elite ogres. Some of them are double pulls. The corridors are tight, but there is often just enough room for a hunter to use ranged combat.

Mug'thol is on the third floor. First, go up the stairs, then go up the ramp. If you go up the second set of stairs, you'll be on the roof. There are some nice single pulls to grind for greens and exp up there, but not the quest mob.

There's a double pull right at the top of the ramp and around the corner, so be ready.

Mug'thol himself won't have any help if you clear carefully. He's level 43 and he hits hard, but otherwise is a pretty straightforward kill. Just have some healing ready. I let my pet tank and used mend pet while some casters fried him.

There's a chest in the room with him. Respawns are fast enough that you'll probably prefer to hearthstone out. Set your home to Tarren Mill if you want to turn in the quest right away. Final turnin is at Undercity.

If you cleared the way up to him, you can just do a quick run around the corner after defeating him, run up the stairs, kill 1 more ogre, and exit from the roof. Dont have to Hearthstone or fight back thru that way.
