Objectives

Using the Beacon Torch, mark each tower in Andorhal; you will need to stand in the doorway of the tower to successfully mark it.

Once all four towers are marked, return the Beacon Torch to Commander Ashlam Valorfist in Chillwind Camp, Western Plaguelands.

Description

Through the use of a magical device known as a beacon torch, we can mark targets of our choosing for future actions by our troops. To that end, we think the Scourge are using Andorhal's watchtowers as a means to control their troop movements.

Your mission: breach Andorhal's defenses to plant beacons at all four watchtowers. You'll need to be in the doorway of each tower to plant the beacon; it will then proceed to mark the tower. There are only five charges on the beacon torch, so use them wisely!

Progress

Once the towers are marked, they'll become top priority targets for our attack on Andorhal. I suspect that once we neutralize the towers, the main threat of Andorhal will emerge. From that point on, we'll have a straight-up fight for control of the city!

You're back to report success, yes? Don't forget the beacon torch as well; we must maintain control of our materiel.

Completion

My priests are reporting that our beacon trackers are picking up extremely strong signals on all four towers! Dare I say it, but I believe you've executed another mission with complete and total success! Well played once again, <name>!

With the towers marked, our preparations for the attack are now in place. The time has come to take the fight to the Scourge!

kill the non-elite guard outside the tower then get close to the door then right click on the beacon. Don't have to kill the elites. Easy to solo quest
Soloable at 51

I solo'ed this at Lvl 51 with my dwarf hunter. If you go around the town and try to sneak from outwards into it past mobs you will not have to fight too many of them. I died two times to the warlords because I aggroed other mobs while fighting them (take care of the aggro radius at this level) but eventually I was able to complete the quest and get a load of XP. I hadn't read about standing next to the doorway here, would sure have made my life easier. Btw the towers are marked on the map as little houses ! Also, didn't have any problem with quest tracking.

The Warlords aren't Elite anymore (2.3 patch). But if you want to do this around level 51-53, like I did, then use the aforementioned strategy of hiding next to the doorway.

As of 2.3, Nov. 13, 2007, the Warlords are no longer elite. Make sure you are standing in the doorway when you go to light the torch and you'll be fine.

Actually the towers are marked on your map if you lack a coordinates mod. Though they don't look like traditional towers on the map, more like squat huts.

this quest is retarded you only have 5 torches and it doesnt' tell you which ones youve already hit. since they dont relate to what appears to be towers on the map you just wander around randomly looking for the towers, i just wasted a torch on one ive evedently already lit and now cant find tower 2, and am down to 1 torch.. if i put it in the wrong spot i guess the quest is totally failed, awesome.

I don't think it's the quest that's retarded, but more so the person doing it. Surely you can remember where you've been, even just by looking on our map.

This quest was fine for me, allys were feel nice and didn't attack also I was able to kill mobs one at a time almost every encounter. By using the locs shown in the 'additional notes' on this page I found each tower. I could place the beacon and not aggro the elite mob inside at level 57, which made it a lot easier.

Just stand left or right beside the entrance and enlight the Torch, the Elite Mob will not aggro you, you do not have to kill him or anything else.

Just kill one or two of the normal enemies and stand right beside the guardtower entrance. That is all ...

I was able to do it with my Level 53 Mage, there was no problem

Although there is an elite skeleton in the middle of each tower, it is possible to mark the tower without aggroing it. Wait till it moves back or faces away and then inch toward the doorway. You don't have to actually stand right in the door to be close enough for the torch to work. I was level 55 at the time, so I could have been just beyond the aggro radius for my level.

All Along the Watchtower" is a song written by folk-rock singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, which is notable for the number of times it has been covered by different artists in different genres, most famously, The Jimi Hendrix Experience's harder, more dynamic and electric psychedelic rock version from their Electric Ladyland album.

Ignorance and arrogance. Great combination.

Tool.

Did this with my 54 undead rogue. If you got about a half hour (took about 25 minutes for me) you can do this SOLO easily as a rogue. All I did was walk to each tower, kill 1 mob who guards the entrance, then blind the elite mob inside, vanish to break combat, and use torch quickly and run lol. If you're a prep rogue you can use it to revanish again. Not exactly the best and fastest way to do it, but easy enough and it takes 25-30 minutes only because you're waiting for the cooldowns of vanish and blind heh. I did this because I couldnt find a group to do it with me so there ya go =P

This quest is actually an elite quest, just like the Alliance version. This s because there is a Skeletal Warlord (Elite) inside each tower.

The torch can not be used while you are in combat.

A simple trick for a hunter. Wait for the elite to move back from the door way. Walk up and stand in the doorway. Then tell your pet to attack as you light the torch.

You will not be in combat when you start and the pet will keep the mob off you long enough for credit. You can then run of and turn pet to Passive so it runs off and does not die on you.
