Objectives

Bring Ordanus' head to Braelyn Firehand near Sun Rock Retreat.

Description

They thought that they could halt the flow of magic. They were mistaken. They thought that they could hide Ordanus, but I will have his head!

Magic grants me true sight. Yes... there he is. A crossroads... At the top of a great tree in Ashenvale Forest. A name... Raynewood. One of the eldest sons of the forest god. They spirited him away from the peak before I could find him, but his time runs short.

Bring it to me and I will share with you a mighty gift.

Progress

When my master bade me to the peak of Stonetalon, I expected that all I would need was to lay waste to the night elves that crawled the sacred ruins of our ancient temple of Azshara, their touch despoiling its sanctity... but Ordanus had slipped my grasp.

Completion

I knew Ordanus once, long ago. He had the arrogance of his kind, holding himself above even the Highborne.

His head does not rise so high now, does it, <name>?

I promised you a reward, and you shall have it. Attend to me.

Additional Notes

Ordanus is at the very top of the tree at Raynewood, along with two other centaurs.

Slightly cheating way to take out Ordanus

I completed this with a Level 26 Tauren Druid... and here's how.

If you want to kill him fairly quickly, run into the complex and as far up the tree as you can. However, deliberately let yourself be killed.

Return as a spirit and sneak up to the top chamber before you regenerate. Your spirit should extend far enough to allow you to do this. Ordanus (level 29) is in there with two level 27 pals.

I stood right on the banister of the path outside this chamber (facing Ordanus directly)and when I regenerated, none of the 3 attacked me.

I simply blasted Ordanus with a starfire, moonfire and two more starfires combination. This killed him just before I got killed by his guards.

I returned as a ghost, regenerated on top of his body, grabbed his head and ran! I died once more on the way out but after regenerating yet again, I got away easily.

Braelyn Firehand gave me 2,350 xp and some money (I think). However, I was disappointed that she didn't offer decent items or more xp. Not sure I would bother again.

with out the whole gang coming out . . . however the circular walkway, you can use it to your advantage.

its in ashenvale its at raynewood retreat; the tree building on your map.

AND watchout for lvl 50 ish nelf druids trying to turn in a quest to this guy. Got pwned pretty quick and then the alliance camped it out with a squad of lvl 80's . . .

I left to do other quests . . . then came back later . . . to find the 80's running about fighting the horde lvl 80's

On good note while turning the quest in in a crew of 20 horde lvl 80's came flyin in to the strand outpost for a pvp raid.

As a belf pally, I had her use an unusual tactic of spamming consecration and using stun on
Ordanus, using main heal and doing as much damage as possible . . . got two adds to walk run away and Ordanus was low on hp and easy to drop, and I OOM'd . . . had to use a potion for hp during the fight.

fight your way up, its lvl 25/26 druid bears and lvl 26-27 fairy dragons . . .

Ordanus uses druid spells, and spams wrath so if at all possible take him out first cuzz it racks up.

bring a pal cuz as its tough if you can't heal natively in battle, as Ordanus blasting away and his two buddies meleeing you ... will drop HP quick.

I got Warcraft 3 in 08. I'd played it, while its good, it's nowhere as uber was Star Craft. I almost skipped World O Warcraft because I thought if this was like Warcraft 3, it might be somewhat fun, but I'd get bored. Sometimes being wrong can be right.

Done as L26 kitty druid easily. These tactics could be used for a rogue as well. A warrior would have a tougher time, but with hamstring shouldn't be much of a problem either.

Moonfired the first add that comes into view as you move in front of the doorway so that he would come first. I would assume he was close enough that it was a body pull, but the object here was to dot him to death.

Shifted into kitty cat and strafed down the circular walkway using my energy as it came and utilizing bleeds for kite damage. First add was dead before reaching the room below.

Then used line of sight to keep Ordanus casting but never completing any of his spells while killing the other add without kiting.

Probably could have shifted out and healed and killed Ordanus at this point, but instead I just ran out of range and let him reset. Went back to the top, prepared, and killed him without his two buddies.

Got it on the 4th attempt with my lvl 32 priest. Found it nearly impossible to NOT pull the two guard mobs together. Consequently, could not effectively use Mind Control. Finally, got all my shield buffs up, drew Ordinus, Psychic Scream'd the guards away, brought Ordinus down as fast as I could [Holy Fire, Mind Flay, Mind Blast, SW:Pain, Wand till he stopped attacking, and let the SW:P do the rest]. Re-bubbled and Renew'd for the two guards who, by now, were beating me up again. Finished off all hostiles with less than 100 HP left.

I MC'd the left one, smacked the right one til my "pet" died, PW:Shield, MC the other one and attack Ordanus til "pet" is dead. Then attack Ordanus directly. Holy Fire > Hex of Weakness > Mind Blast > SW:Pain > Renew > Wand > Dead Ordanus and still mostly full health.

i soloed this with my level 29 shaman. just make ur way to the tower, take out the guards one by one, though sometimes i had to deal with 2 at once. though it was quite funny, as i was killing one of the bear guards, a lvl 29 night elf warrior took advantage of the situation, and attacked. so heres a tip for shamans fighting warriors. if u need health, just use lesser healing wave if u have it. dont bother with totems, as they use mana, and your opponent will just kill it within 2 secs. so i got 4 honor points there =]. anyhoo, once u get to the top, take out the guards as fast as u can, heal if u can, and then take Ordanus on himself. alone, hes not hard, just beware of entangling roots.

I finally got around to this at lvl 32 (tauren warrior,) and it was almost too easy. Took out the sisters 3 at a time, then the protectors 2 at a time.
When I got to the top, I just went straight for Ordanus. Used demoralizing shout to cool the attacks from the Vindicators, then buffed myself with Battle shout, a few heroic strikes had them all dead. Looted, walked down, killing whatever came in my way.

My Mage just soloed this at level 29. She fought her way up, carefully, through all those nasty little Druids in bear form. Once she got to the top, she stood so that she could see Ordanus. Once settled in position, she polymorphed him and then waited for the Vindicators to come over (and away from their besheeped friend), then used Mana Shield and Arcane Explosion until they died, died, died. Just after they died, she did Evocation to regain Mana; the bar filled back up just as Ordanus returned to his normal self and came for her. He was quite easy to put down without the Vindicators to help him out, and as a bonus, my Magineer didn't see a single treant the whole time.

Getting back to the road was as simple as turning 'round towards it and using Slow Fall to float gently to the ground (and away from any Laughing four-hoofed nasties).

Got the quest as 29th level rogue, and since I was already buffed from hunting I decided to get it done then and there. Here's how I finished it in a matter of a couple minutes.

Already buffed with the following scrolls from previous hunting.
-Stamina II
-Protection II
-Agility II
-Strength II
-Both blades poisoned with Instant Poison.

Stealthed in, killed the three bear form druids quickly. Headed upstairs.

Stealthed before Ordanus's room, headed to the right inside, sapped the guard, ran up to Ordanus, Sinistered him, kicked him to interrupt his spell casting, Sinistered again till I had all 5 points, Eviscerate, killed him.

Looted his corpse, ran out, clicked Vanish. Out safetly and never lost more than 200 hit points.

Stealth up. Careful with the druids in bear form walking up and down the ramps.
Poison blades if not already done. I used Insta and Crippling (Ordanus runs when almost dead).
Ordanus has two guards. Ill call them guard one and guard two.

1. Sap guard one.
2. Cheap shot Ordanus.
3. Sinister Strike til 5 points. Evis and keep wailin on him till he dies.
(Guard one should still be sapped)
4. Start killing guard two as fast as you can. This is where I used evasion since by this point youll be fighting guard two and some of his summoned treants. While you're fighting guard two, guard one will come out of sap(and summon more treants) but you should have enough time to finish killing guard two.
5. Vanish.
6. Wait a few for hp. The summoned mobs will disappear.
7. Kill guard one.

Loot and walk away at your own leisure. :)

Hunter level 27, solo'd it, though it took me four tries. This probably isn't the most time economical way to do it, but it worked for me:

went around the back of the house, on the hills, and picked off two guards on the front porch, then got up on the porch, and killed the two or three guards inside one by one by targetting them, shooting at them and backing up. As soon as they were on the porch, sent my pet after them, and killed them.

Headed up the spiral ramp, targeted one guard and sent my pet after it; once the pet attacked, it summoned the other of course. Once both were attacking my pet, I went and stood by the little dragons, and took my shots, killing those two. I will say this however; there's another spiral walkway going up to where Ordanus is, and if you're unlucky as I was the first time I attempted this, the guard that walks that walkway will be attracted as well - this proved to be too much, and I died. However, this wasn't an issue the next three times.

After killing the two guards at the top of the first spiral walkway, headed out to the second, and killed the guard there. I recommend going up that walkway with a lot of strafing so you see him before he sees you.

At the top of the walkway, stand just a little past where the walkway goes level, so you can tab target Ordanus inside and send your pet after him. This was the most delicate part for me; the first two times, his two personal guards saw me and annihilated me. Once your pet attacking Ordanus, though, his two guards will go after your pet... then just focus all your attacks on Ordanus. Kill him, run in, grab his head, and run out. Jump down off the ledge, and go splat, and that's the end. Just... make sure you grab the head.

I made it to Ordanus and sent my pet in to attack his guards. I killed Ordanus - and then - POOF. He disappeared. I was furious. He was no where to be found. I jumped out of there but was attacked and killed. As a ghost I made it all the way up again, but fell off the side onto the roof after becoming alive, but another bear guard chased me down and killed me again. I got so frustrated and am waiting until I get some help on this one. The hardest, most infuriating quest yet for me.

Loot fast before your pet dies otherwise if you were unlucky enough to have aspect of the cheetah enabled your too stunned by time they come to you and running isn't possiable. <-- Died that way x_x

Backed up to pull the protector away from Ordanus and his buddies...disposed of the Protector and stealthed back up to the entrance.

Stealthed up to Ordanus, aggroed him then the battle just went like this

Cheap Shot
Evade
SinStrike Spam til 5pts
Evisc

and at that point he started making a run for it. I followed him towards the door spamming SinStrike, he fell, but I couldn't manage to loot him before I died, due to his buddies, and their summons filling up my screen.

ran back from the gy, rezed outside the door, looted, vanished, and jumped off the edge...where I was promptly killed by some named panther.

rezed at the gy, flew to SRR and turned in the quest (2350xp..no rep)

Although I do have better than average weapons (The Black Knightw/ fiery & Wyvern Tailspike) I figured I'd give it a shot, considering he was a druid... and he definately fell just as quick as one.

I just ran this as a lvl 27 Troll Mage grouped with a lvl 30 Tauren Hunter. We had a really easy time of it; we didn't have to do it 'right', we just put out enough DPS to take 'em all down quickly. But if you're going it alone, like everyone else says, for the love of god go buff up and keep some pots on hand and when you go after Ordanus go after only Ordanus, kill him dead (he's only a lvl29 and he's not elite so he shouldn't be too hard to take down), loot his head and run.

As for the person who mentioned PvP flagged lvl 40s? There *is* a tower like that in Raynewood, it's just not the one that Ordanus is at (my friend and I wiped hardcore to them). I forget the coords of the PvP-40s tower but the coords mentioned below of (63,50) are the correct ones for the tower w/ Ordanus. If you bring your map up, you'll actually see it marked on there.

Did this at a Lvl 33 Shaman. Died the first time because of those stupid tree minions. Good thing my corpse was right outside the boss room. My suggestion? Heal yourself, buff as much as you can and try and kill ORDANUS and ORDANUS ONLY. Once he's dead, heal with a potion (if needed) and loot him fast! Then run out if you can and if you die...well, you got the head!

well i Mind Controlled Ord as a lv 30 Priest, the guards owned him bad with all their trees (i didnt fight back) then i went in, feared most of them, ran to ords body, figured i couldnt loot him since i idnt kill him, all adds came back, i died

next try:

i was supposed t try, but a NE 34 Druid came after me for about 20min, i feared him, healed, dispeled, hided, was a fun game, then i said it in general chat and a lv 56 lock killed him, never seen the NE after that =P

Next try part2:

this time i teamed with a lv 32 Priest anda 30 Wqarrior, raped them all

kindo hard quest to solo imo, since each guard spawns like 3 trees, need to do some fancy hit and run tacttics or a melee class with potions or something

Now the tower is surrounded by lvl 40 PVP Sentinal. The problem with this is that if you fight back you on a PvE server, you are tagged for PvP.

You're at the wrong place. There's a tree building a little farther north up the road where it says Raynewood Retreat on your map.

The lvl 40 guarded tower at 58/60 says "Raynewood Retreat" on your screen when you walk up to it, but that's not it. The actual retreat is further north, slightly up the Felwood road.

I'm not sure what you saw, but there were no 40 PvP mobs when I just went there. Nothing else around the tree but 24-26 Protectors.

Oh, and if you follow the road to Felwood until you are directly East of the tree, you can run up the side of the hill to the tree house where Ordanus lives. Saved a lot of time by skipping by the Laughing Sisters.

This is actually pretty easy! The area to get to is Raynewood Retreat its at co-ords (63,50) on the road to Fellwood out of Ashenvale.

Once there proceed to the bottom of the tree watching out for the laughing sisters (level 25 half deer half NE female) the entrance and first floor is guarded by 6 level 25-26 Cenarion protectors (looks like a druid in bear form) fortunately they are spaced out and you can pull them singly! Once done proceed to the second floor which is guarded by 3 protectors who will fall on you all at once! Watch your AOE here as there is a neutral Blink Dragon (little dragon fly thing you see people with as pets occasionally) on the second floor that you don't want added to your fight unnecessarily! Once the 3 are dealt with proceed out on to the ramp and up towards the room at the top killing the final protector patrolling the ramp on the way up.

The final room is pretty basic 3 mobs 2 level 26-27 vindicators (looks like half reindeer half NE male) and the boss a guy called Ordanus. Buff before you go in! Once in completely ignore the vindicators and give Ordanus everything you got he should go down easy as he's not an elite. Loot his head of the corpse and then turn round run out the door, jump off of the ramp and do a peter pan right down to the ground level and keep running! The vindicators summon 5 or 6 extra tree mobs to whoop you good as soon as Ordanus dies but the idea with the peter pan jump to freedom is that by the time they get down stairs your long gone the quest is done and you are very much still alive!
