I fish for golden darter on my sever as they sell stupidly quick and i found that if i flew around on my normal flying mount i could cath 100 of then in about 1hour
I caught a bunch of these in Zangarmarsh, in the "Brackish Mixed School". I had fishing skill of about 370 with lure & pole, and was able to fish, although I got about 20% of "fish got away".
Do note i was getting a fair few "your fish got away" messages.
The puddles in terrokar only seem to yield 1-3 golden darters each, and are spread far and wide. The "mixed highland schools" at Skettis and the lakes up at the horde and alliance outposts also yield Golden Darters tho, as well as Spicy Crawdad.
My advice if your farming these for personal use; dont go for the puddles, just park yourself at an inland lake or stream and fish.
My advice if you farm these for gold: get the mixed highland schools, the spicy crawdad is equally valuable and there are many puddles. 500 fishing skill needed to prevent getaways tho.

A wiseman once said: "Wisemen make proverbs, fools repeat them"
The drop rate of this fish is exactly the same in any body of water in Terokkar Forest; it is consistantly about 15%. Expect to fish for about 45 minutes to get a full stack. Make sure your fishing is at about 450 for these results.
Don't waste your time looking for a school. I've been search for about 20 minutes to find 1 school and I would have been able to catch more out of the side of Allerian stronghold rather than looking for a school that gave me literally 3 darters with a skill of 431.
I fished Silmyr Lake in northern Terrokar Forrest at night with 422 fishing skill and only caught Barbed Gill Trout. I didn't see any schools so maybe you can only catch them in the daytime, I don't know.
Yes, they're used for Golden Fish Sticks, a recipe that cooks them (and no reagents, so cheap!) into a food that gives a +44 healing and +20 spirit buff. I've been meaning to get my fishing up to catch them, because I have a Treeform druid friend for which those fish sticks would be crazy awesome.
skilling fishing from 300 to 325 with a +25 rod and +100 lure
results:
56 golden darters
142 barbed gill trout
56 spotted feltail
2 enormous barbed gill trout
256 total
21.875% golden darters
55.468% barbed gill trout
21.875% spotted feltail
0,781% enormous barbed gill trout
Do note i was getting a fair few "your fish got away" messages.
