Stonescale Eel can be caught at about 25% cast rate at Scalebeard's cave in Azshara.

1) Take FP to Azshara
2) Head North-Northeast to coast
3) Swim out to Scalebeard's cave (little island just offshore)

You will also catch probably 50% Darkclaw Lobsters here, and if you kill Scalebeard
he drops a greenie too.

Happy Fishing!

I've only been playing this game for 2 weeks and a couple of days ago I pulled in a trunk with a scroll (I think it was a scroll) that gave me the "find fish" option, similar to the find herbs option for the window in the top right of the screen. Is this not that common an option for people to have? I ask because I see much discussion of where to go and how to find a specific type of fish school. This is a very nice option because I just cursor over he yellow dot and it lets me know exactly what the school contains. Spent less than an hour going up one coast and came away with 15 mithril lockers. Got over 50G for the cloth alone. Considering the most I'd had up to then was 15G at one time, I felt rich!!

I'm going to talk game mechanics here for a bit so bear with me, I have noticed in my profession as an herbalist/alchemist that when farming herbs they are almost always near a mob That made me think about how the game mechanics make things you need, sometimes hard to get. Have you also noticed this? Anyway, while fishing I started noticing the same influence on nodes. It seemed that a node near a mob would generally produce more of the respective fish. There also seemed to be a direct correlation to debris nodes. While fishing debris I found nodes free of mobs generally drop drinks whereas nodes with nearby mobs would have a higher rate of trunk drops.

Please call me crazy, you wouldn't be the first but I encourage you to at least think about this next time you fish or mine or do any node based activity and see if you find similar results.

You're fairly correct. If you read the recent patch notes you'll actually notice this was on purpose. In the last patch they adjusted the spawns so that they appear closer to nodes, notably mining nodes. They also increased the agro radius while harvesting the item. You can stand on an herb or mine and be perfectly safe, but immediately when you start to gather or mine the agro radius will increase and previously out of range mobs will attack. This is a deliberate attempts to encourage people to keep their gathering profession levels comparable to their class level. The more difficult to reach nodes will produce better results than open nodes.

This adjustment is fine in theory, except for one other observation. All too often, the gathering skill necessary for the node exceeds the "level*5" for that zone. For example, I can't tell you how many herb nodes I had to pass up in Westfall due to the fact that the skill required was over 100.

Along with the announced adjustment ought to be an adjustment that the nodes will BE "level appropriate."

With v1.11 Blizzard implemented the Stonescale Eel Fishing Swarms, what you can found all around the world, mostly at Strangethorn Vale and Tanaris. It's not to hard to found them, all you have to do is walk to the eastern coast of Tanaris and start riding from north to south, along the coast.

You can found 4 type of fishing schools which are RANDOMLY generated: firefin snapper schools, blackmouth oil schools, stonescale eel swarms and floating wreckedges.

On my server i can make 100g easily in an hour, with fishing only from those schools. You can found many Mithril Bound Trunks (bolts of cloth, leathers, lvl ~40 green items), Rumsey Rum Black Label (very good for tanks) and some Strangekelps (for free action potions for example) too.

There is only one tiny problem with this, they are randomly spawns all around the place. So if you looking only for Stonescale Eels, you have to fish out most of the schools to make them change. But it will worth it...

I fished a stack last night and they still drop from open water, but I haven't checked to see if the drop rate has changed yet, 'cause I was looking for swarms and fishing open water intermitently. Only found two swarms across the entire coast of Tanaris, so hopefully these won't effect the cost of Stonescale eels much either way.

If I'm wrong about that, let me be the first to give a heartily sarcastic "thanks" to Blizz, for nerfing the only thing that allows blacksmiths to level their skill before 60.

With regards to Tanaris: I am a fairly newbie fisherman but what I found in one farming session today is that thre is ONE stonescale eel swarm and ONE floating wreckage in Tanaris, when you fish the node dry its resawns somewhere else up the coast a few minutes later, I imagine the same applies to the Blakmouths and Wed Snappah but these are much more numerous anyway.

I have got anything from 1 to 5 catches (and a trunk) from a node.

Anyway the constant spawning means that it is not tricky to catch if you know how to find it.

Clearly the fishing table has stonescale eels in 2 entries. The first is time independent, which is why you can catch some at any time of day. The second is time dependent with clams replacing eels after 6am, resulting in the lower eel yield.

Catching stonescale eels does seem to depend on time of day. In all the zones I've tried (Feralas near Feathermoon Stronghold, Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris, The Hinterlands) my general impression is that the drop rate goes up somewhat after about 10:00 p.m. ST (server time), and perhaps even greater around 12:00 a.m. ST. So be prepared to stay up late.

If I recall correctly, I think I had to be around skill level 200 before I could fish these, and even then it required Shiny Baubles (+75 to fishing)...which are easy enough to purchase.

If you're at skill level 300 and you fish Aszhara, you'll still need some kind of bait. I have a lvl 48 shaman and getting to the Aszhara coast is a bit scary, but it can be done; I just drop Earthbind totems and run like h***. ;-)

If you're an alchemist and you can find them, stonescale eels can be a real moneymaker when used to make Elixir of Superior Defense.

I feed them to my Warrior/Achly

Yes I have had the odd day where I get more. But still my average is under 5 an hour.

I was searching like a mad man on these over many different forum boards and webpages. It seems that this fish bites alot more often during the night then durign the day.
I havent tested this but many other people have confirmed this.

I got about 6 here a moment ago, all within about 10 minutes, standing next to the fish trainer in Feathermoon Stronghold with a fishing skill of 232 and a Big Iron Fishing Pole.

I agree.....in 30 minutes I caught 83 fish. 12 were Stonescale Eels and 6 were Firefin Snappers.

I was able to do this only 1 time. Since, I am lucky to get 6 in a half hour. Even with my fishing at 300 and a Strong Iron Pole.

I always fish at Feathermoon by the docks. At 300 Fishing with a Big Iron Fishing pole I catch an average of 30 eels per hour.

I fish in Feathermoon also. However I did note that after 7pm the catch rate for stonescale eels went up significantally.

I spend a morning and only caught 1. In the evening I caught 6 in much less time. My skill was around 240 + 75 lure.

I fished a few off the cliffs at Hinterlands. Not many, though. 3 came in a row, then 1/2 hour later, I wasn't catching any fish. Very weird.

Impossible to fish these up consistently anymore.. very very few per hour now, what happened?

Same low yield in Steamwheedle and Feathermoon, I don't know of any other good places to fish these up.

I caught quite a few of these in the Bay of Storms, Azshara. Area requires skill above 300 to fish, so bring your best lures and pole. I was here a couple hours and caught around 25 stonescale eel, a lock chest, a couple suppy crates, tons of lobsters, raw rare mightfish (~15) and a few others. There are a number of baddies walking around I recommend coordinates 61, 66 for alliance folks (level 60 warlock npc and his minions reside here).

Best of luck!

I was fishing for these the other day. I caught around 10 in 20 minutes. Then the server clock turned 9 PM (server "nighttime") and I caught no more. Instead I caught only Firefin snappers at around the same rate. Before 9 PM I didn't see a single firefin snapper.

Have anyone else noticed this depending on what time they fish?

The best place Ive found is off the cost of Azshara (50-54lvl area). Make sure you use bait if your skill isnt maxed out. I get around 2 eels every 10mins.

that would depend on where you are trying to catch them. i suppose the earliest places to catch them require around 210 +/- maybe 10 points just to cast. but having the bare minium skill to fish there will result in many bites which are missed of course.

170 is not high enough. 170+75 is.
so, my guesstimate is 200 skill needed.

in 25 minutes of fishing i caught 3 eels (in steamwheedle)
