I've been follow a fair amount of it, but mostly I'm still in wait and see mode.
Not directly related to recent events, but related to a popular description of Trump in the media. Journalists, both left and right, continue to describe him as different. I see this as quite wrong. Trump isn't unique or unusual. He's the kind of dishonest and corrupt leader you'd find in many third world countries. What's unusual is his support. It's not Trump who is new and different, it's Trump supporters. There are plenty of Trump-like individuals happy to run for office, but nobody thought they could win. People thought constant lying and threatening to kill citizens in broad daylight for funsies would lose you an election, and they were wrong.
That's why I'm waiting patiently. It's certain Trump has already guilty of grievous negligence and incompetence, and likely guilty of serious crimes as well. this seems fairly certain to me. What is uncertain is that if Mueller brings undeniable evidence Trump solicited help from a a hostile power to win the election, will his supporters care? I'm entirely uncertain how bad the situation would have to be before the GOP and his supporters abandon him. The closest he's actually come from what I've seen is when he spoke some language (but took no action) espousing limitations on guns.
This is the more significant issue to me, because whether Trump loses in 2020, wins and serves another term, or becomes king until death like many of his supporters desire, he'll eventually be gone. But his supporters will remain. Why wouldn't they vote for any of the other Trump clones eager to run a banana republic? There will always be more Trumps to elect, so long as there are those willing to elect them.
